🌍🍽️ This #SustainableGastronomyDay, let's take bold action for our planet! The hospitality industry's impact on our environment is significant, contributing to climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, water pollution and more. Did you know 931 million tonnes of food are wasted annually, with 26% coming from foodservice alone? To meet our climate targets, we need to rethink how we approach food – from how it's grown to how we consume it. The hospitality sector plays a crucial role in connecting the food system with consumers, influencing choices and behaviours. Restaurant kitchens shape our future by guiding how customers think about food and what they order. Urgent action is needed across the entire hospitality industry - throughout supply chains, menus and daily operations. That's why The Sustainable Restaurant Association is dedicated to advancing solutions with the Food Made Good Standard - the world’s only sustainability accreditation tailored for the sector, transforming kitchens worldwide. https://lnkd.in/duiWxmmH Together, let's redefine 'good' in hospitality. Let's fix our food system to ensure that good food—good on every level—is accessible to everyone.

Together, our industry has the potential to cut 70 million tonnes of #CO2 annually and reduce food-related #emissions by 30% by 2030! These are two of the pivotal findings set out in our new Decarbonizing Hotel Food Systems #whitepaper, developed in #collaboration with Iberostar Group and the Sustainable Markets Initiative, with the support of Systemiq Ltd.. The hospitality industry holds a crucial position in shaping our global food system, driven by an ever-increasing demand for food. Yet, the prevailing model of #foodprocurement and #foodconsumption in #hotels often relies on emissions-intensive ingredients and generates significant waste, resulting in an unacceptably high #carbonfootprint. By adopting innovative solutions like #AI #wastetracking technologies and leveraging #procurement power, we can truly transform our impact and take a significant step towards a #NetPositive future. This paper is a game-changing resource for both our sector and the entire global food system, equipping us to #futureproof the industry and advance #sustainablefood initiatives. Today, we're issuing a vital call to action, for the industry to foster meaningful discussions, collaborations and innovations that will empower us to tackle this challenge head-on! This work represents a collective effort, and I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Gloria Fluxà Thienemann, Erika Harms, JD/MBA, Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, M.V.O., MBA, Xenia zu Hohenlohe, Katherine Danby, Alicia Alonso Menjon, Nicholas Komisarjevsky, Jen Smit, Jack Doyle, Alexandra Philips, Veerle Haagh and Rupert Simons for their leadership, insights, and dedication to driving positive change. The #hospitalityindustry has an essential role to play in transforming #globalfoodsystems. Let’s seize this opportunity to lead the way by embracing #sustainablepractices that not only #reduceemissions but also support #nature, #communities, and #economicprosperity.
