🧪 🧪 Several grade 11-12 chemistry experiments can be a source of anxiety for students. This often stems from a few key factors: a) the lack of communication from teachers that honest errors and mistakes are common, even among experienced scientists; b) insufficient guidance from teachers, who may leave the entire experimental process up to the students; c) gaps in students’ theoretical knowledge; and d) unclear instructions. 🧪🧪 During their first titration experiment, grade 12 students titrated oxalic acid with sodium hydroxide using 50 ml burettes. Phenolphthalein served as the indicator for the reaction. Ideally, the experiment should have resulted in a light pink solution, indicating that “neutralization” (pH~8.2-10) had occurred. However, many students ended up with bright pink solutions on three consecutive attempts. This result highlights the importance of patience and proper technique, as titration requires careful swirling and control of the burette. 🧪 🧪 Through this exercise, students not only acquired essential laboratory skills, but also learned the value of focusing and working deliberately to achieve the desired outcome—in this case, a light pink solution representing a weak base. #STEM educator #Titration experiment #high school 🏫

Reflection on My Experience as a Laboratory Assistant Looking back at my time as a laboratory assistant, I am filled with a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. Working in a lab provided me with a unique opportunity to not only apply the scientific knowledge I had gained in school but also to develop critical hands-on skills that are essential for success in the field of science. Every day presented new challenges and learning opportunities. From preparing reagents and managing equipment to assisting in experiments and data collection, I was always engaged in the kind of work that fueled my passion for science. One of the key takeaways from my experience was the importance of precision and attention to detail. A single misstep could affect the outcome of an experiment, which taught me the value of thoroughness and consistency in my work. Working closely with senior researchers and scientists also gave me a deeper understanding of the scientific process and how theory translates into practice. I learned to troubleshoot issues, operate complex instruments, and maintain laboratory safety standards—all of which have made me a more competent and confident professional. Perhaps the most fulfilling part of the job was seeing the results of our hard work come to life in meaningful ways, whether in academic publications or the development of new techniques. I take pride in having contributed to scientific research and being part of a team dedicated to discovery and innovation. In summary, my experience as a laboratory assistant was both challenging and rewarding. It strengthened my technical skills, taught me the importance of collaboration, and deepened my love for scientific inquiry. These experiences have shaped the professional I am today and continue to inspire my future endeavors. #science #laboratoryassistant #laboratory #research

Our ONLINE PRE-AP CHEMISTRY summer course is back for it's third year!!!! The course starts on Monday, July 29, and consists of 8 one-hour "live" Zoom classes. The course ends on August 22. The course's purpose is to provide students planning on taking AP Chemistry (and even upcoming college freshmen taking a first-year chemistry course) with a focused and interesting review of the prerequisite knowledge required for success in those classes. Students who could benefit from such a course include: 1.) Students who have already taken a high school chemistry course and plan to take AP (or first-year college level) chemistry but could benefit from a focused and interesting review of the important topics because they have not had their high school class recently or when taking the class did not feel as confident as they would've liked concerning the material covered. 2.) Students who have not yet taken a high school chemistry course but feel confidently able to start at a higher level of chemistry while at the same time recognizing that a focused look at the important lower-level concepts would be beneficial. If you're interested, you can find out more at https://lnkd.in/eF6yPRfd or email me at [email protected] for more information.

𝐎𝐟 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝, 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐢 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? 😫😩 My initial dream was to become a pharmacist, though for some selfish reasons. 😂 However, God had other plans for me. When I wasn't offered admission to study pharmacy, I decided to take another JAMB. During that waiting period, something incredible happened. God kept placing me in situations where teachers made a significant impact on my life. This reminded me of how my own chemistry tutor inspired me and encouraged me to push beyond my limits. Now, as a Chemistry Education student, I have discovered that I am not called to teach chemistry only, but to inspire and educate my students. I am deeply committed to this purpose and determined to make a positive impact on my students' lives. Guess what, I am not giving up on this journey. 💪 If you're looking for someone passionate about education and dedicated to shaping the future, let's connect and also I am open to training and growth opportunities. Together, we can create a brighter future for the next generation. P.S. This picture was taken during my teaching practice period 😊 #chemistryeducation #personaldevelopment #scienceteacher #educationstudent
