Dear Readers, Last September, I took part in the “Ideas of Tigers Sustainability Impacthon,” where Maybankers were challenged with a crucial question: “What can Maybank do to be more sustainable and encourage Maybankers to embrace sustainability?” And guess what? My ideas made it to the winning list!🎖️ Driven by my passion for sustainability, I submitted ideas on Reverse Vending Machines (imagine getting rewards for recycling your bottles at work!) and an Eco-Certification Programme (think earning badges for sustainable habits like going paperless or keeping plants at your desk). I mean, why not make sustainability a bit more fun, right? My focus was on making sustainability engaging and accessible for all Maybankers, bringing it into our everyday environment. 🌎 When I received an email asking for more details on my ideas—and saw that the top two would win an 11th Gen Kindle—I was thrilled and set to work on the proposals. Although I didn’t win the Kindle I had my eyes on, I was honoured to be one of the winning ideas and selected to attend the Maybank Sustainability Impacthon Workshop. It’s exciting to know these ideas could one day become a reality, bringing positive change to our workplace. #SustainabilityImpacthon #MGSW2024 #MaybankCares

At PwC Singapore’s "Getting Ahead in Supply Chain Sustainability" event this week, Kiran Zaidi joined leading voices from DHL, UOB, McDonald's, and Goodpack to get to the crux of how to make sustainable supply chains more than just a buzzword. For Telenor, sustainability begins with the right data. By taking a data-driven approach, we can make more informed decisions and not only minimise the environmental impact of our operations but also create a more positive future. Kiran also shared Telenor’s experience with double materiality assessments—understanding both financial and ESG impacts—and how value chain mapping can unlock more opportunities across the supply chain, to minimize risk and create value for the business. #DoubleMateriality #DMA

Indeed, Business is a Key Player in Sustainability Indonesia generates approximately 67.8 million metric tons of waste annually, a number that continues to rise due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and increasing consumption. Recognizing the urgent need for action, Indonesia has set ambitious targets to reduce ocean plastic waste by 70% by 2025 and to achieve near-zero plastic waste to landfill by 2040. But meeting these goals requires more than just government initiatives—it calls for businesses to take bold steps in transforming waste management practices. At PT XL Axiata Tbk, we have long focused on initiatives to reduce our carbon emissions, but as we look ahead to 2024, we are expanding our focus to take an active leadership role in waste management across the industry. Our commitment was reinforced during the 3rd Sustainability Week held in September, where we emphasized the importance of the circular economy. The circular economy serves as a foundational strategy that intersects with multiple aspects of sustainability, from climate action and resource efficiency to social inclusion and economic resilience. By adopting circular models—such as reducing, reusing, and recycling materials—businesses can significantly contribute to the nation’s waste reduction goals and drive meaningful change. The call is clear: it’s time for businesses to embrace circularity, innovate in waste management, and collaborate for a sustainable future. Tamara Dewi Gondo Soerijo, Melia Winata have lead by example through their inspirational work in Liberty Society and Du Anyam respectively; while bu Ratnaesih from OCBC Indonesia shared their progressive programs in implementation of circular economy as part of their business. Every effort counts toward a cleaner, greener Indonesia. #greenaction #greenerfuture #JadiLebihBaik

SUSTAINABILITY WEEK IS A MUST FOR CORPORATES NOW? It's encouraging to see the leadership of executives to lead a top-down approach to foster work culture and environment that is more conscious of sustainability. On a team level, the KPI of sustainability is already integrated in the company, which have yet to translate to the individual level. Last week, PT XL Axiata Tbk hosted their sustainability week, filled with panel talks, employee activation activities of collecting textile, plastic and e-waste. Ibu Yessie Yosetya and the sustainability team invite me to share about #greenaction for #agreenerfuture in which I shared about the work of our company Liberty Society, alongside bu Ratnaesih from OCBC CSR team, and Melia Winata from Duanyam. I'd love to see more public companies starting to educate their 100-1000 employees on the #importanceofsustainability and the @smallsteps they can take to contribute to a more livable planet. Thank you to XL team including Kak Ratu Ommaya who hosted an upcycling workshop of turning unused Tshirt into tawashi sponge ! Because of the inspiration of clients of ours like XL, CIMB and AXA , Liberty Society will continue to contribute to corporate client sustainability goals by launching our green corporate talks soon on the various topic of sustainability. Stay tuned. cc: Julia Thio Chelselyn Charissa C.

🌍 Thrilled to see The Edge Malaysia's ESG Awards return for a third year in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia! I’m grateful to be part of the Index & Sustainable Business team, led by Chiun Chiek Wong and Hui Yin Wong, supporting the process where FTSE Russell independently provides ESG scores for public listed companies (PLCs) using the FTSE4Good methodology. This year, eligibility has expanded beyond the EMAS index, opening up the awards to a wider universe of companies. This shift promotes inclusivity, allowing more companies to gain recognition and learn from each other’s best practices in sustainability. As Bursa Malaysia’s CEO Datuk Umar noted, this expansion not only “levels the playing field” but also supports companies in staying relevant and competitive on a global scale. This initiative accelerates the ESG journey for Malaysian companies, positioning them as strong partners in global supply chains and empowering them with the insights they need to drive impactful, sustainable change. Excited to see how these efforts continue to strengthen Malaysia’s competitive edge! 🌟 For more information, refer to this website: [https://lnkd.in/g86iv-pz] #Sustainability #ESG #FTSE4Good #BursaMalaysia #TheEdgeESGAwards
