This afternoon I presented the research of one of our former graduate students, Austin Reedy, titled "Relationships between isometric arm strength to pitching metrics and game performance in Division I collegiate baseball pitchers" at the NSCA National Conference in Baltimore, MD. This study reported that pitchers with greater total arm isometric (combined IR, ER, Scaption, and Grip) strength, arm score strength relative to lean body mass, IR isometric shoulder strength, and isometric grip strength using the ArmCare device had more wins, innings pitched, strike outs, and less walks per inning pitched and walks per 9 innings pitched. Additionally, significant relationships existed between those pitchers with greater isometric grip strength, relative strength, and relative lean body mass strength and fastball and change-up spin rate. #baseball #pitching #armstrength #armcare #sportscience #sportsperformance #gameperformance #pitchingmetrics

A recent PADSIS survey of 126 Directors of Sport found that 84% thought that Athletic Development was a better term than Strength and Conditioning to use in schools. Athletic Development is defined as: “The systematic, sequential and progressive development of all athletic qualities in an integrated manner to develop the complete athlete. It incorporates a balanced development of all components of physical performance: strength, power, speed, agility, endurance and flexibility” Vern Gambetta. Is it time to move on from the term Strength and Conditioning in schools? #directorofsport #athleticdevelopment

The S&C team was keen to investigate what the wider literature was reporting on priming strategies to augment performance during track and field competitions. This will help to inform the warm-up practice for the athletes competing in run, jump and throw events in athletics. Through a systematic review, 🏋️♀️: Heavy-loaded resistance training (i.e., .85% 1 repetition maximum) and resisted sprints increased subsequent sprint performance. 🤾♂️ : Plyometrics/ballistic training also positively impacted subsequent jumping (i.e., long jump) and throwing performance (i.e., shot put). 🏃♂️ & ☄️ : Modified warm-ups (i.e., high-intensity sprints and heavier throwing implements) also improved subsequent running and throwing performance. ⏳: Overall, exercise interventions performed at high intensity and low volume augment subsequent physical performance as close to 4 minutes before the event. However, a sufficient recovery interval must be considered for a positive performance response.

What are the Educational, Health, or Economic Benefits to these Players and their Families for that kids uncompensated participation in any additional “NON-SCHOLARSHIP” private third-party postseason football games that pay the Universities and the Conferences for the use of their free labor to put on these highly profitable Bowl events. The answer is ZERO! These additional 1-5 POSTSEASON games are also above the Players’ 12 game athletic scholarship agreement? Our Proposal offers Major Benefits in all three Categories to the Players and their Families! Scholarship Football Players are owed Hundreds of Millions of dollars from this year’s Media contract that uses these Players’ Name, Image, and Likeness NIL without any equitable financial consideration to the Players or their Families! This lost Money could have a major impact on these Players lives, the lives of their current and future family members for generations? We do not support, or agree with the House vs NCAA Settlement or the current covert attempts to extend and expand this Antitrust exploitation of our young (mostly minority) FB & BB Players' labor that the US Supreme Court and Federal District Court have recently struck down as illegal and implausible.
Our June 11 NADCA session, “House Case Impact: Blueprints for the Future of Division I,” features athletics directors and athletes, offering insights on the future of DI college sports as Power 4 schools work on new college athlete revenue-sharing plans and other D1 institutions seek to boost the educational mission of their programs. Early personal hot takes on the NCAA/CHL decision. 1. D1 will get stronger (no-brainer) 2. D3 will get stronger (fringe D1 players will drop down) 3. USports will take a slight hit and see more Tier 2 players if more major junior players opt for D1 (or pro) 4. The BCHL will get weaker because NCAA D1 commits may opt to go play Major Junior if given the opportunity instead of feeling tied to Tier 2 hockey. 5. Will have to wait and see if #4 will also happen in the USHL, but more unlikely. I think the golden question we've been hearing is what particular schools may see the greatest influx. Heard from some coaches that only the top-end schools will be grabbing players, others have said low-end D1 programs will find themselves taking more. Think we'll ultimately have to wait and see what occurs.
