I am beyond excited to share that Project Driven Inclusion has been awarded Silver in the prestigious 2024 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards in the Best in Leading Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging category! Woot! This recognition underscores Deloitte’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment. The Brandon Hall Awards are a gold standard in the Learning and Talent industry, and this accolade is a testament to years of hard work, passion and commitment to creating a culture where everyone feels valued and included. What most people don’t know is that I founded PDI about six years ago, with an incredible group of collaborators, shortly after rejoining Deloitte. At the time, I was working on a pretty homogenous team where my presence felt tolerated and not truly valued. I imagined how work could feel different; the creativity and innovation that could be unleashed if leaders of all levels were equipped with the tools and training to lead inclusively. Years of growing Project Driven Inclusion, countless hours of research, 1:1 conversations, and facilitating everything from team meetings with a few, to practice wide-town halls with thousands, have shown me this: - Situational leadership is power; whether a CEO or a new Analyst, absolutely everyone has an opportunity to lead at their level. - Culture is driven from the top; what senior leaders say and do is immensely important, but mean nothing if those principles aren’t embodied by day to day managers. - Diversity is strength; ultimately everyone wants to be seen and valued at work for who they are & the talents they bring to bear. Project Driven Inclusion has grown from a scrappy grassroots effort to a best-in-class tool for team leaders and employees across the US and globally, with digital interactive tactical resources ranging from conversation guides for authentic check-ins, to actionable frameworks for leading inclusive hybrid teams, to workbooks that challenge people of all backgrounds to confront their own privilege. A very special shoutout to the original PDI co-conspirators, Amy Smith Kwasi Mitchell Ayo Odusote Jenn Baellow Ryan Hauptman Courtney Cadel Hinds Christian Revill Jake H. I attended my 4th Ascend Leadership National Convention this year, held in Las Vegas. It was an honor participating along with so many of my Deloitte colleagues, partners, friendly competitors, clients and future clients. The 3 days were full of learning, sharing, networking and fun! The conference theme was 'We Lead Together' and each day had a special flavor- Day 1- Mentorship/Sponsorship and Women Empowerment, Day 2- Mental Health and Day 3- Allyship. What a fantastic line-up of speakers for each of these modules!! Here some of my fav take-aways: - Seek the BEST answer, not just the CORRECT answer - Think about what you COULD be doing Vs. what you SHOULD be doing; when you do that, you take care of the should, anyways  -Three things that no one can take-away from you- your character, your credentials and your relationships - Recognize the 'glass cliff' (Vs. 'ceiling') - Have an 'activist' mindset - Be the best version of your self - You need to BE well, to DO well - Remove the 'but'; go 'all in' - Sponsorship is all about actions, behavior and practice - Allyship is, many actions over a period of time - Why 'fit in' when you can 'stand out' - Be an 'upstander' and not a ' bystander' And, this one touched my heart- Do for OTHERS what they want for THEM ( evolution of the golden rule- Do unto others as you would have them do unto you) Adding on another layer of #Gratitude for my firm leaders, Anna Mok, Sandeep Gupta, Rumy Jaleel-Khan, Brooke Lyon, Saagar Thakkar, Celeste Lum, Roger Sion, Linda Bohnert, Caroline Weatherford, Jessica Galimore, amongst others for the opportunity to attend the conference and pay the learning forward. Sam Sithole gave a Senior Manager Leadership Session at our Deloitte Midrand office earlier this week. It was such an amazing session and a couple of things stood out to me: - You do not have to be a part of the 5 AM club to succeed, for you to succeed you need to work towards being true to who you are; - You have to love what you do. If you do not love what you do, you either need to ask yourself why, or changes careers; - Really-really understand your clients' businesses; - When you speak, speak enthusiastically, those around you pick up on and will mirror your energy; - You need go out, meet people and build relationships. A big part of your professional journey is about the connections you have. Make a point of meeting new people; - Having the right mentor is vital, it needs to be someone that inspires you. Having more than one mentor is also okay; - When asked about what his highest high and his lowest low were, he said that he could not remember his lowest low, but that lows are often a sign that you are in a space that you are not meant to be in, you are meant to thrive somewhere else; - We grow outside our comfort zone, spend time developing yourself. Read one or two books a month; - When it comes to your own time, it is the most precious commodity you have, spend it well and spend it in your field of expertise. We have experts in each field for a reason, make use of those experts; - In the words of Barack Obama: "Learn to get things done"; Thank you so much to Deloitte for giving us to opportunity as Senior Managers to spend some time with Sam, the advice he gave was invaluable & will definitely be paid forward.
