#LucasTVS group has launched our Leadership Institute recently. The renowned management guru and prolific author Dr Ram Charan was our chief guest. He enlightened us with the following nuggets: * For any business Growth is not optional ; it’s essential for long term sustainability. * Sustainable growth of business is possible only when capabilities of leaders and team members are increased through deliberate efforts. * Leadership is required at every level to sustain the growth momentum. * Developing mastery at personal level is very important for leaders at any level. * In addition leaders must commit to improve the capabilities of others. * Leaders must have the curiosity to know what’s new in the environment as there’s constant discontinuity keeps happening due to rapidly changing environment - technology, geo politics and more. * When they identify something new that could be useful to their business or likely to disrupt their business, they must have the commitment to learn more about it from the relevant practitioners and experts. * This requires the intent and the ability to listen - to understand and internalise what others say. This capability distinguishes an effective leader from others. * Sustainable growth is possible only when the business develops competitive advantages that differentiate them from their competitors. * Developing competitive advantage requires the participation and collaboration beyond departmental silos. * Mastering problem solving through Cross Functional Teams can be a great competitive advantage for business. * Diversity of thoughts and points of view are possible only through teamwork. * Leadership is not about individual heroism. It’s about collective achievement in an environment of mutual accountability. * Consensus for the sake of it will not be constructive. * Getting things done is the primary job of any leader. * To get things done the leader must focus on the vital few KPI, the ones that matter to achieve the objectives of the organisation. * These KPI must be monitored the right way - right frequency, right people and right approach to move forward to achieve objectives * The leader must follow through continuously to ensure the objectives are achieved. * Execution is the key element of successful strategy. It’s not the intellectual brilliance of the strategy that wins the day. It’s the cadence and rigour of getting things done that makes the difference. * The interaction of a leader with anyone requires investing in the other person. * This investment starts with understanding the unique talent of every person in the team and connecting it to achieve the objective of the team. * If things go awry, helping the team members understand what delayed or derailed the course and collaboratively developing a recovery to achieve the objectives helps improve employee satisfaction as they feel listened to and guided appropriately. #leadershiplessons #executionexcellence #DrRamCharan
