Had a great time attending the #DocNYC festival this year. As with most industries, #creatoreconomy was one of the key buzzwords, with a focus on innovative #directdistribution strategies. Here are three key takeaways for #filmmakers looking to launch their next project: 1. Know your audience and how to build it. Understanding the core demographic for your story will allow you to better understand how to take the film to them, whether it’s through premium local viewings and pop-up events or targeted online screenings. Nurturing a following early is a great way to capture the attention of studios for projects that may not otherwise have big names attached. 2. Cultivate brand partners. Select companies, organizations, and content creators who align with your vision and would be willing to partner with you to organically spotlight your project. Social media outreach can often be more effective than traditional P&A in today’s market and is significantly less expensive. 3. Leverage hybrid distribution strategies. Utilize data-driven direct-to-audience distribution platforms (Kinema, GATHR, and Jolt had a presence at the festival) to supplement traditional media. Impact producers are another great resource to help spread your message. There’s no one size fits all when it comes to making and selling a film, but understanding the changing media landscape is crucial. With sustained engagement and a direct audience connection, producers and filmmakers can take advantage of this new environment and maximize their success.

Woah — Creators are getting their own festival at Cannes! A while back, I wrote about how creators didn't have their own awards program, and it was time for someone to create the Oscars for Creators. I hadn't even thought about Cannes. In my mind, I had always considered creators "entertainers," but the reality is, they are also strategic marketers too. The Festival is literally called the "Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity". It has CREATE in the name. While the festival celebrates those working in creative communications, advertising, and related fields, it blurs the line between marketing and entertainment... Which feels like the perfect place for creators to show up. I'd argue that creators are both entertainers AND marketers, which is why they can show up both at the Oscars/Grammy's and also at Cannes, Adweek, etc. And it's only time until there a premiere festival for JUST creators. It's great to see Cannes getting ahead of that. So, do you think Cannes is the right place for creators to show up? And would you describe creators as more entertainers or marketers? P.S. It's my dream to go to Cannes for the festival. Manifesting a trip next year!! #marketing #cannes #canneslions #creators

⚡️💶 When sponsoring an event, what’s more impactful: simply contributing funds for visibility, or engaging meaningfully with the event? I believe that Film Festival Audience Awards offer a prime example of a valuable sponsorship opportunity. These initiatives not only provide excellent potential for a return on investment but also foster deep connections between brands and attendees. We’ve witnessed many successful partnerships where top brands collaborate with film festivals to facilitate audience awards and voting. This approach not only adds value to the festival and the sponsor but also creates meaningful interactions with the audience. Audience Awards are powerful tools for community building, lead generation, and enhancing the overall audience experience. They give attendees a voice and provide a platform to connect with filmmakers and festival organizers. What are your thoughts on the impact of engaging sponsorship opportunities like these? 👉 Dive deeper into this topic with our detailed blog: https://lnkd.in/dRwreAgp #FilmFestival #AudienceAwards #EventSponsorship #BrandEngagement #CommunityBuilding
