That’s why we run SciNovate, a quarterly lecture series under the Novartis Open initiative, offering a platform for learning, networking, and exploring potential collaborations. This time, we were thrilled to host Prof. Dr. Blaz Zupan from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science. Prof. Zupan, a researcher in explainable AI and bioinformatics, runs a cutting-edge lab developing Orange Data Mining, an open-source machine learning toolbox. In his inspiring talk, "The Joy of Point-Based Visualizations," Prof. Zupan delved into exciting projection and embedding techniques for analyzing tabular, textual, and image-based data. He also demonstrated how AI and computational methods can bring clarity to complex visualizations—insights that have clear potential in innovative drug development. The session sparked lively discussions and a flood of ideas, reinforcing the value of academic-industry collaboration.
