I Cracked the Secret Behind Netflix's Most Popular Shows --- Netflix just did something they have never done before: They shared the hours viewed for every title they offer — and there is something very interesting hiding in the mountains of data. You see most Netflix titles aren't notably popular — but a few are. And very few that break out, break out A LOT. And is this something that our, audience will really enjoy? Making sure that it really has that element, whether it's a character, whether it's a story. Is the vision as strong from really identifying the story till we execute and bring it to our audience, are we really making the same show? Are we really making the great show that we all believe our audiences will love? So really making sure we examine that from multiple different angles. For me, that's a Green Light Rigor. But it all boils down to really finding the story. What the audiences will love and being able to communicate with the creators and making sure that we become their thought partner. They have a lot of stories in their head and going through their head to find what we believe is really needed in our sort of slate." D.E.I. Obviously I haven’t seen this movie (although I’m excited to), but let’s use it to talk about what the work of DEI really is. Diversity/representation is having more movies about marginalized/excluded/underrepresented groups/people available to watch. And making sure there were some trans men and women on staff and *in the room* as decision makers when it (and every other movie) was being pitched to help Netflix understand why they should include it on their streaming platform. Equity is making sure those who understand the potential of this movie have the power to decide to greenlight it and to provide its creators and talent with a legit budget and access to PR so that it is set up for success. It is also about making sure Farrell’s friend, Harper, is paid a fair amount for the work she’s performed making the movie, starring in the movie, promoting the movie, etc. Inclusion would be Netflix executives and all other employees welcoming Harper (the subject of the movie) in their corporate spaces in all the same ways they treat the talent in any other Netflix features and making sure the success of the movie will be celebrated in the same ways their other creators are celebrated. Outlast Season 2, is such a fascinating series. In an age of so many people talking about AI, I think it’s worth noting, a show, shot in documentary style, in the complete wild of Alaska, with humans surviving in nature, is an absolutely riveting ride. I commend Jason Bateman and other producers who have created a format of a show that is so simple, and yet so compelling. The show demonstrates the concept that, the more a character (or a person) is faced with something challenging, the more revealing of their character. Seeing a person (or character) go through the most impossible and gruelling challenges, is what most stories - especially those that follow the Hero’s Journey, must strive for in storytelling. This is what humans care about in a story, that which reveals what it means to be alive. It’s rare to hit the mark so perfectly, but when you see that in film/TV, it is not really explicable - but you just have to watch it, and feel it, to understand. Netflix I hope you create a spin off, and show these people in their lives after they leave. #survivalshow #verité #netflix #outlast
