Heerema has signed a reservation agreement for the Polish offshore wind projects Bałtyk II & III. The scope of work appears to include foundation installation and substation installation. The Polish projects Bałtyk II & III are a joint effort between Equinor and Polenergia, with a total of 100 turbines expected to produce a capacity of 1440 MW. The project will utilize monopile foundations, which Heerema will install. Heerema's investment in the Thialf, equipped with a motion compensation gripper for monopile installation, increases the likelihood of Thialf being assigned to this project. Netherlands to Launch New 4 GW Offshore Wind Tender in Q3 2025; 1 GW Projects Possibility Due to Market Conditions The Dutch government plans to invite tenders for two new offshore wind sites, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 1, by the end of the third quarter of 2025. The two areas will add a further 4 GW of offshore wind capacity to the grid in the Netherlands. The procedure for granting permits for the two offshore wind farms has now been established and detailed by the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy in a Letter to Parliament issued on 31 May. Unlike the tender for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Beta, for which the winning bidders will be announced tomorrow (11 June), the procedure for IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 1 may also see project capacities of 1 GW, instead of 2 GW, offered. One site of 2 GW and two sites of 1 GW are also a possibility. This tendering setup is being considered due to the deteriorated market conditions, according to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), which expects to further clarify this part of the upcoming tender during the summer. The applications for the IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 1 sites will be evaluated based on a comparative test (qualitative criteria) with a financial bid. We’ve been busy in Taiwan this year. 🌏 We celebrated the inauguration of Greater Changhua 1 and 2a, Taiwan’s largest offshore wind farm. But it won’t hold the title for long…    …because we’re already hard at work to build an even bigger one, Greater Changhua 2b and 4!    Greater Changhua 1 and 2a alone can generate 900 MW green energy – enough to power 1 million Taiwanese homes. During construction it created 8,300 jobs and involved more than 200 local suppliers.     As for Greater Changhua 2b and 4, it’ll generate 920 MW of power. As 2024 draws to a close, we’ve already manufactured 49 out of 66 suction bucket jacket foundations, completed the structure of the onshore substation, and prepared the offshore substation for installation.    When we’ve finished, we’ll be able to power another million homes.    Watch the video to find out more about what we’ve achieved in Taiwan in 2024, our biggest construction year ever. 

As Offshore Coordinator appointed by FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy and DG Energy, IMDC is proud to announce the technical public workshops presenting the results of the preliminary studies performed in the Princess Elisabeth Zone (PEZ),the new zone for production of offshore wind and renewable energy in the Belgian part of the North Sea.     Since 2020, IMDC assisted FPS Economy in the procurement, follow up and quality assurance of different field and desktop studies for the development of offshore wind farms in the Princess Elisabeth Zone.    During two days, on 7 and 8 November in Brussels, IMDC (Mieke Mathys) will introduce the executed studies and the contractors / consultants will present the final outcomes. Ofgem Approves £3.4bn for Anglo-Scottish 'Electricity Superhighway'! 🚀 Exciting news: Ofgem has approved £3.4 billion for the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project, a 310-mile subsea and underground cable connecting Scotland and Yorkshire. This 2 GW ‘electricity superhighway’ will harness offshore wind to power up to 2 million homes, bolstering grid capacity and helping us get closer to net zero. For those who are not aware, this is a joint venture between National Grid and SSEN Transmission, marking one of the largest-ever investments in UK transmission infrastructure at a total of £4.3 billion. It builds on the success of the Caithness-Moray and Shetland links. The ASTI framework has helped fast-track this project, potentially delivering £1.5 billion in savings and shaving two years off the approval process. With construction starting soon and completion set for 2029, EGL2 is a huge step forward for the future of energy transmission. It’s great to see these developments moving ahead. Salamander floating wind farm to launch second call for suppliers The Salamander Floating Wind project is set to launch the second phase of its call for supplier innovations. The 100 MW joint venture project between Ørsted, Simply Blue Group and Subsea7 will open the call on 3 December. Suppliers will have until 14 January to get in touch. The Salamander team will kick off the call for supply chain firms during a webinar next month. Those behind the Salamander project have laid out five areas of interest for suppliers to reach out about: construction and operational health and safety; wind turbine foundation integration; novel anchor technology; low-carbon materials and processes, and construction vessel optimisation. Smulders Projects Belgium and Sif Netherlands BV have signed reservation and preconstruction agreements with OWF Bałtyk II sp. z o.o. and OWF Bałtyk III sp. z o.o. for offshore wind turbine transition components. The agreements, concluded on June 28, 2024, allow suppliers to commence work and secure necessary resources. The agreements will remain in effect until final contracts are signed, planned by August 2024. Polenergia emphasizes the agreements ensure the project schedule. OWGP awards £2.4m to eleven UK businesses and launches next funding round The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership (OWGP) has released its latest Development Grant funding call, with £2 million available for UK businesses looking to accelerate their growth in the offshore wind supply chain. Funding is available for projects that target at least one of the high-value focus areas identified in the recent Supply Chain Capability Analysis report, commissioned by the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) and OWGP. Proposals should align with one of the nine supply chain categories that represent high value opportunities for the UK, including cables, substations and electrical design, steel fabrication, floating wind, development services, offshore services, vessels, blades and rotor assembly and Wind Turbine Generator components. OWGP also revealed the 11 companies that have secured a share of the £2.4 million funding pot released in May 2023. EchoBolt, Insensys, Unmanned Survey Solutions, Encomara, Quoceant, Technip FMC, Plaswire, CRC Evans, London Marine Consultants, SeaRoc and Windscope have all been awarded OWGP Development Grant Funding to support offshore wind supply chain projects totalling £5m. The successful projects have a key focus on improving capability, increasing competitiveness, and driving forward business growth within the offshore wind sector.
