🚀 From a Small Idea to Makersfest Magic ✨ What started as a humble attempt to complete an assignment for Professor Franz Lohrke's Digital Entrepreneurship class somehow ended with me at the Auburn University Entrepreneurship New Venture Accelerator Auburn Makersfest Fall '24 with a glowing bobblehead of myself. Yeah, I know—wild, right? 😂 Let me introduce you to #LumiMe bobbles: a 3D-printed, illuminated figurine of, well... me. And honestly, it was just supposed to be a fun tech experiment. I thought, "Hey, what if I use my iPhone's LiDAR sensor and turn myself into a bobblehead?" Seems logical, right? Fast forward through countless hours of tinkering, scanning, 3D printing, a bit of soldering (I now officially know how to make wires behave... unless they're doorbell wires,) and some wild late-night trial-and-error sessions—like trying to force a #mirrorball LED and a work light LED PCB board to connect using said doorbell wires, which, spoiler alert, led to a very short-lived experience for the mirrorball LED. ⚡️😅 But in the end, there it was—LumiMe: the glowing version of yours truly. 🔦💡 But Makersfest wasn’t just about bobbling figurines—it was also about getting creative with AI. I worked with some incredibly talented digital collaborators—ChatGPT, #ClaudeAI, and Suno—to create "Makersfest Dream," an AI-generated song that tells the story of bringing LumiMe to life. It’s kind of like a musical diary of my journey through sleepless nights, bright ideas, and a lot of coffee. ☕ If there's one thing I learned through this experience, it's that #creativity isn't linear. It twists and turns, changes plans, and sometimes even decides to short out an LED board just to keep things interesting. 🚀 Would you risk everything to honor a promise? Back in 2015, we faced a defining moment at Divide By Zero Technologies. A massive opportunity knocked on our door—an automotive giant asked us to build a large industrial 3D printer. The catch? We had never built one before. 💡 It was our moment to step up, but we made a big mistake. We underpriced the project, far below the manufacturing cost. Realizing this too late, we had two options: 1️⃣ Walk away and risk damaging our credibility. 2️⃣ Honor our bid, take the financial hit, and deliver. We chose integrity over comfort and honored our promise. What happened next? Our team worked tirelessly, designing and building the machine from scratch. Every challenge tested us, but we persevered. The result? We delivered our first industrial 3D printer, which has been operating flawlessly for nine years at the client’s facility. Fast forward to today, that same client trusted us to deliver another machine. Seeing the old and new machines side by side felt surreal—a powerful reminder of how much we’ve grown. Good read. Fifty Inventions That Shaped the Modern Economy. Air conditioning is an interesting one because of how it was invented. Commercial printers used a process that involved doing four passes, each time printing a different color. Cyan, magento, yellow and black. If the humidity level changed slightly, the result would look garbled. So they tasked a young engineer named Carrier to maintain constant humidity/temperature in the printing room. He solved the problem then wondered who else might use his solution. Turned out to be theaters. Theaters usually closed during the summer because of excessive heat. With Carrier's invention they could open and extra three months a year and make that much more revenue. From theaters, it then spread to offices. People in a cool office are more productive than in a hot one. The increase in global GDP from this is likely in the tens of trillions of dollars. #invention #startups #business #ceos
