The federal appropriations process, where Congress sets the budget for the upcoming fiscal year (including the funding for the essential programs and agencies that keep our government running!) is an often-confusing maze- but it is also an important opportunity for individuals and organizations to advocate for funding for the issue areas they are passionate about! A lack of centralized information and resources about the processes by which people can submit requests to members of Congress regarding appropriations presents a huge barrier to accessing this vital advocacy activity. That’s why we're proud to present with Food Systems Collaborative a brand new tool that centralizes information about food loss and waste champions and other key appropriations actors, the status of their appropriations portals, and weekly updates on deadlines. The brand-new tool is designed to reduce barriers for newcomers (or even the most seasoned professionals) to drive change on vital issues, including reducing food loss and waste and fighting hunger. The Farmlink Project and Food Systems Collaborative are dedicated to making advocacy and outreach more accessible and ensuring that all voices are heard when it comes to food security. Please spread the word and share the tool with your networks as we work towards our collective goals to reduce food waste and end hunger! 🎊 📰PSA: We’re starting a newsletter!!! 📰🎊 Introducing “Food Policy Debrief,” Food Systems Collaborative’s new monthly newsletter, in collaboration with the brilliant minds at Patelana Group. 🌟 💭 This newsletter started out of a shared frustration with Will Thomas and Lucy Shanker about how difficult it is to understand food policy, find ways to take action when you're not a policy expert, and keep up with how nonprofit and industry stakeholders engage in everything from appropriations to the Farm Bill. We wanted to find an easier way to stay up-to-date without having to piece together endless clips from coffee chats, webinars, and passing meetings. Above all else, we want food policy advocacy to be ACCESSIBLE and easy so that more advocates and companies would be encouraged and excited to engage with food policy. Every month the newsletter will include: 📌 Fresh News Bites: Stay up-to-date with quick and concise insights into the ever-evolving world of food policy. 📘 Policy Made Easy: Unpack complex policy matters and gain a clear understanding and roadmap -without the jargon. 🤝 Get Involved: Discover actionable steps for your organization to make a meaningful impact through advocacy and engagement. Whether you're looking to engage your company with progressive food policies or are open to listening to me ramble about food policy 😆, “Food Policy Debrief” will provide clear, approachable ways to engage in policy and make a real impact. 👉 Subscribe now and join us as we navigate all things food policy 🌟 🎉📩 https://lnkd.in/efQkUHNU P.S. 🥹 Never in a million years did I think I'd get to launch a newsletter?! An incredibly HUGE thank you, Lucy Shanker and Will Thomas, for making this exciting new venture possible!!
