Came across this short webinar(although a year old but informative), explaining the importance of grid code especially with rise in the % of DERs/IBRs, it becomes crucial for the generators to incorporate technologies that improve stability and reliability of the grid. It's not enough to just produce power efficiently anymore! Some of my key takeaways from the webinar: 1)Decentralization of power sources, Electrification of end users and grid digitization are the emerging trends which pave the way to a sustainable future. 2)The adaptation of these innovations go hand in hand with the regulatory requirements enforced by the grid codes to avoid possible scenarios of instability, cyberattacks enabling more flexibility and faster responding grids. 3)With more DERs, technologies like grid forming controls and use of smart meters, AI & cloud based infrastructure for grid analytics are surely taking the center stage! 4)With the advent of "prosumers"(Individuals who both produce and consume power"), there is a need for "AGC"(Automatic gain control) where the grid through advanced controls and communication protocols has the ability to alter the power output of any Distributed Generator based on the dynamics of demand and supply to improve efficiency and stability. Not too long to a future where each device/home/grid is smart, each energy source(even the battery in your car) is potentially feeding power to the grid with perfect reliability and zero energy waste. As the AI boom drives unprecedented growth for data centers, America's power grid faces a significant challenge: meeting the rising power demand needs of an AI-driven future. Nate Walkingshaw, CEO and Co-Founder of Torus, delves into this rapidly evolving energy landscape, where data centers alone could consume 9% of U.S. power by 2030. With traditional infrastructure lagging the expected electricity demand, Walkingshaw advocates for a flexible, distributed energy model, envisioning commercial properties as nodes for decentralized energy generation and storage systems.

🌍 Digital Technologies: Accelerating the Global Energy Transition At the 2024 Vienna Energy Security Dialogue, organized by the World Energy Council Austria and the OSCE, Branko Milicevic, Economic Affairs Officer at UNECE, outlined how digital technologies are transforming energy systems. During Panel IV, he highlighted UNECE’s Task Force on Digitalization of Energy and the role of AI, ML, and DL in optimizing grids, supporting renewable integration, and improving market efficiency. Why AI Matters: - Grid Optimization: AI manages the growing complexity of grids integrating storage, solar, EV infrastructure, and hydrogen technologies. - Industrial Transformation: AI helps manage energy supply, storage and use, so that renewable energy can replace fossil fuels in high-temperature applications - Synthetic Data: Provides a practical solution for data-scarce regions, enabling tailored energy models. Key Drivers: Branko emphasized that AI's growing role is driven by the increasing complexity of energy grids, the rise of IoT technologies like sensors and smart meters providing real-time data, and the evolution of new trading models requiring efficient resource management. #EnergyTransition #UNECE #Digitalization #AI #SustainableEnergy #Innovation

NEW On the Grid #Podcast! Energy systems innovator and economist, Erin Grossi, sits down with Erin Autin to talk about the “mission critical” nature of building out digital platforms to detect, measure, monitor and control EVs today. We have been talking about the need for more national infrastructure to support EV ramp up in the United States, it’s time to focus on the need for digital systems that can incorporate EVs as assets within the electrical system. We need a lot more predictability when it comes to charging and transacting with vehicles, and work on fundamental digital technologies like load disaggregation suggest we aren’t yet on track to do this effectively. In order to keep the evolution of clean distributed energy systems on track, the US will need to make more commercial space for tech companies to maneuver at the edge of the grid and supply needed capabilities so we can take advantage of EV growth and leverage it to develop the broader economy. #electricvehicles #electrification #electricgrid #powergrid #distributedenergy #energyindustry #innovation #economics #technology

Energy transition is the most critical commercial revolution happening in the world today & electrification of vehicles & fleets is right in the heart of it. Digital control systems which detect, monitor, measure & control charging, manage transactions & enhance the experiences of EVs are essential to unleashing overall systems value of EVs for society's benefit. Zero tailpipe emissions are important - but EVs hold MUCH more promise as the key assets within clean energy systems. To all of the great technologists working on digital tech for EV & related systems today: YOU are the new HEROES of clean tech & the fate of the transition rests largely on your shoulders. #cleantech #digital #evs #distributedenergy #energytransition #workwithpurpose
