Good morning everyone, I hope this post finds you all in good health. I wanted to share a tip with fellow job seekers that I consistently apply after receiving a rejection letter from hiring managers. Rather than ignoring their emails or feeling resentful, I always respond to their email to inquire why I was not selected for the role. I must say, I have received some invaluable feedback from most recruiters. This practice not only helps my growth but also helps me avoid making the same mistake repeatedly. My ability to accept constructive criticism has supported me over the years. For instance, as a Student Assistant at the University of Johannesburg's law clinic, I always made sure to review my actions and seek feedback and guidance from my senior colleagues. Similarly, with my new CV Revamp service, I always request honest feedback from everyone who uses my services on the work I performed, which helps me enhance the quality of service I provide. Dear Young Graduates, If you are fortunate to be shortlisted for an interview for a job in a government department; agency, board or parastatal make a point of reading or seeking the following information about the department/agency before the interview date: 1. The statutory or service mandate of the department or agency; 2. The mission & vision as well as core values; 3. The leadership of the department/agency; 4. The Constitutional & Legal reasons for existence of the department/agency; 5. Have a general understanding about Chapter 6 of the Constitution, Public Officer Ethics Act, The Anti-corruption & Economic Crimes Act, Leadership & Integrity Act, Public Finance Management Act, The Public Procurement & Disposal Act, The Bribery Act et al and finally, 6. The pillars of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation (BETA) Questions on the above areas constitute a major segment of the selection criteria during the recruitment of public officers/civil servants in Kenya. Pass this segment and you are almost assured of the job.

If there is one thing that professional bodies need to do is that they need to represent their members well. It is contradictory that the reason for establishment of a professional body is to advance a new profession, yet they include many different professions into that particular body. We are now seeing professional bodies double dipping into other professions. This contributes to confusion and lack of clarity. Further, individuals being appointed in incorrect roles. Job descriptions not properly crafted. Members of professional bodies take a stand against this malfeasance that is happening within professional bodies in South Africa just to increase the numbers.

Something is wrong with the advert lets break it down: 1. "A regulated Non-Withdrawable Deposit Taking Sacco seeks..." - Whats the name of the Sacco? Non-Withdrawable Deposit Taking? 2. Delivery address: "P.O. Box 49990 - 00100" just a quick search on google shows tonnes of job applications going to the same postal address. The question is, how many citizens have come across the advert and will be submitting their resume before 23rd. To make it more interesting, they will be an interview in a well structured office. The questions remain, Standard Media Group LLC Who verified the advert before being posted? Posta Kenya whos address is this? Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) whats the name of this sacco? Reflecting on My First Month of 8-to-5 Job Experience It's been a month since I secured my first job after completing my NYSC, and I feel incredibly blessed to be working as an office administrator at Akabogu & Associates law firm, just two weeks after finishing my youth service. This achievement is largely due to God's grace. I prayed diligently, set a timeline for my job search, and took proactive steps by applying for jobs and following up with recruiters. My determination to excel in the interview process, even when facing challenges, played a significant role. My familiarity with challenging questions from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria ICAN exams helped me navigate the test effectively. Despite a demanding interview process and competition, my drive and persistence were noted by my Executive Director Joyce E. E. E. Akabogu as key factors in my selection. In my first month, I've gained valuable experience, including: -Enhancing my negotiation skills -Overseeing various tasks on behalf of the firm -Interviewing candidates for a junior role -Adapting to delegating tasks to my team -Improving my multitasking skills Although I'm still learning, I truly enjoy my role as an administrator and am grateful for my supportive manager Hannah Adekemi Adelusi and understanding boss. I recently went through a challenging experience that I wanted to share. I had a clear job offer, and after careful consideration, I accepted it. I even cancelled other interviews and turned down another offer. However, the original offer was withdrawn because the company changed its direction and no longer required the position. This unexpected turn of events has been a tough pill to swallow.😔😤😡🤬 It's hard not to question the ethics in business when situations like this arise, especially in a place where I expected transparency and mutual respect to be the norm😶. This experience has been a harsh reminder of the uncertainties that can happen, even in a developed country like the UK. As a foreign woman living in the UK, I've always admired the standards and ethics in the business world of a developed country. But recently, I faced a challenging experience that left me quite disheartened. Despite this setback, I'm determined to keep moving forward and I'll continue to seek opportunities .But let’s push for a professional world that truly upholds commitments and ethical standards. Tribe, It’s 4 AM, and something happened yesterday that reminded me of my days hustling for jobs in Nairobi. Back then, I’d search tirelessly, sometimes even borrowing money just to make it to an interview. Sometimes there’d be 5 or 10 of us, depending on the organization. We’d put in all the effort—preparing, borrowing transport fare, even facing insults for asking for help—only to get no response. Later, we’d learn it was just a formality, a “fake” interview, and they already had someone lined up. Even for tenders, I know of big organizations that hold fake prequalification processes just to check a box. To HRs, hiring managers, and CEOs: Please stop this practice. Here’s how it really impacts candidates: 👉🏾It wastes their time and money: Getting to interviews isn’t free. There are costs for transport, clothes, and sometimes childcare. 👉🏾It blocks real chances: Candidates may skip genuine opportunities, hoping for a response from you. 👉🏾It damages their confidence: Each fake interview makes them doubt their worth and abilities. And if you’ve chosen someone, please inform the others—don’t leave them hanging. Candidates put in time, effort, and hope for these chances. Make interviews real. Be honest.
