When you’ve been in Chicago for three years and you finally become a, “new face.” 💁🏾♀️ As one friend put it, “Hey, Chicago is a tough city to break in to… three years is nothing!” Lol! I’ll take it! Thanks for the write up, Crain's Chicago Business ☺️

Congrats this is awesome! Clearly they’re confused as they also titled this “2024” when we’re about to enter a new year! Well deserved, Nneka Nwosu Faison!!
Don't miss my creative session with Dom Spinosa, Jenny Allen and Amanda Lichtenstein, "I Wish I'd Thought of That!" August 1, 2024 at 4:10 PM. Lots of fun new ideas to explore!
Welcome back Michael McPherson!! In case you haven't met Michael yet, he's our new Business Development expert here at Foremost. When he's not growing our book of business, Michael can be found watching his favorite movie (which we have hidden in here). Fun fact about Michael, he was in a rock band for 3 years and toured across the Midwest. We're thrilled to have you back Michael!
We've hidden two other facts about Michael in this post, can you spot them?
1.) Where is Michael's dream vacation?
2.) If any song could play when he entered a room, what song did Michael pick?

"Even at $1.3M ARR, I didn't think we had product-market fit -- they were buying US, not our product." 🎯
That's what Doug Barnett, co-founder & CEO of Remi shared today about the hard conversations that led to their pivot. Such a powerful reminder about being honest with yourself as a founder! 🔥
Some other highlights from Doug's journey:
✅ Interviewed 1,200 people to hire just 12 - sometimes finding the right fit means only 1% of applicants get in. Crazy!
✅ Values radical honesty in interviews over polished perfection
My favorite piece: "Before asking for more opportunity and more to do, you need to dominate your world first." ⚡️
Love hearing these real experiences -- these leaders are just people like us, waiting for permission to do great things. 💪
Huge thanks to Doug for the candid conversation today. Sometimes the most valuable insights come from hearing about the hard decisions! 🙏🏼
And thank you to Tyler Jennings and Reference Group for putting on this event at the beautiful Pelion Venture Partners office!
PS: If you're a young entrepreneur looking for opportunity -- apparently roofing is where it's at! 🏠
Client video really brings what we do at Kingsbrook to life. Here Martin Haley goes into some detail of how we successfully sold his business for maximum value. If you are at the early stages of considering a company sale or maybe a bit further down the line in conversations, I would expect you will find what he has to say enlightening.
Here are three key takeaways from my 6th week in the Arizona Fall League 📓 🌵
This week reinforced the importance of cultivating a positive mindset, implementing structured routines for preparation and recovery, and drawing inspiration from excellence in all areas of life.
One week to go!
Starting today off, we recognize a fantastic October.
We've grown market share (increasing our lead), we exceeded revenue goals by a wide margin, and we approach each day, more equipped and more informed than yesterday.
How did we get here?
1. Our trusting partners and customers. Without whom, we would never be what we are.
2. A zeal for new knowledge and re-thinking how things "are"
3. A consistent positivity and sense of humor in the office (even when getting crushed with tasks, time sensitive goals, or curative items)
4. Resiliency. Our teams, front side and behind the scenes, endure some mind melting legal discussions, underwriting approvals, and closing fire drills. Without bounce back, this field can beat it out of you.
Happy Friday everyone, and cheers to what will be a wonderful remainder of the 4th Quarter.

Thanks so much for having us, Family Business Center - University of St. Thomas! One of the great things about these sessions – and I’m sure Marnie Kittelson will agree – is that as much as we share insights, we also learn a great deal.
There were so many great moments at this session, but one that really stood out for me was an insightful question from a woman from a family business in the Hmong community who asked how to approach marketing in a community that is so culturally unique.
It’s such a great question because I think there’s sometimes a perception in marketing that successful brand strategies can be applied almost interchangeably to different communities and contexts.
The thinking seems to go: Success is success, even if it was a strategy that targeted a completely different audience in a completely different place.
I disagree.
My advice when developing a strategy in unfamiliar contexts is to approach the challenge with humility.
This is when even the most experienced strategist should throw out their favorite playbook, and invest time in listening, learning, and understanding the customers and the community.
A brand strategy, is, after all, about connection.
Thank you to everyone who attended, engaged with us, and shared their insights!

"Best kept secret"
Not for long! This morning, we had the largest event attendance of the last five years, for Branding without Bragging: Marketing the Family Business. It was highly regarded session, co-facilitated by Meghan Lynch and Marnie Kittelson of Six-Point Creative
Our families left with knowledge, new ways of telling their story, internal assessments, and next steps to elevate their brands and grow their businesses while staying true to their values and unique culture.
This was also our first "East Side Day" at the Family Business Center, with 10 first-time families from St. Paul's East Side and a number of the business support organizations they work with. Shout out to Vong Thao, MBA, EDFP, East Side Neighborhood Development Company Inc. (ESNDC), (LEDC MN) Latino Economic Development Center and Paris Dunning for helping organize and bring family business conversations to the East Side, and vice versa!
What makes a company truly great to work with? Is it just about skills and results—or could it be something more?
Let me challenge your thinking: Look for a team that genuinely enjoys working together, that knows how to work hard and have fun. At Blue Compass, we believe in that balance. Every year, we break into smaller teams to compete, collaborate, and just have fun together during our Blue Circle Games—an afternoon filled with food, drinks, and activities that test our problem-solving, teamwork, and even our competitive edge.
Last Friday’s event was no exception. I had the honor of inviting some friends and old colleagues to help out, and they all walked away with the same impression: our team is connected, collaborative, and truly enjoys one another’s company. It's something you can feel, whether it’s in a game or at work.
Great weather, great competition, great teamwork—and most of all, great relationships. When choosing a partner or vendor, don’t overlook the value of a team that loves working together. That’s what makes a company stand out.
What do you value most in a team you partner with?
