The electrification of aviation will open new frontiers of accessibility across the world. We note the growing impact of EVs in the traffic mix on a daily basis, but the electrification of transport is happening airside, in our ports, at sea and on our rail networks. The electrification of transport and heat in world economies will drive changes to supporting infrastructure far beyond anything we have seen since the closure of coal-fired power-station fleets, or the arrival of diesel trains to replace steam motive power. It will also accelerate the delivery of V2X and with it the need to mitigate power quality anomalies such as voltage imbalance and fast charger induced voltage & current harmonics. Flying VTOL taxis are no longer a feature of science fiction but a real transportation evolution generating a new way to access locations never reached with ease before. German eVTOL developer Lilium is opening its regional headquarters for the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) in the Chinese metropolis of Shenzei. The aim is to get the air taxis flying in the region as soon as they are ready for the market. With thanks to electrive.com - "Lilium has signed a cooperation agreement with the Bao’an district in Shenzhen for its regional headquarters. Through this collaboration, Lilium aims to establish itself as an active and contributing player in the region’s so-called low-flying economy and foster relationships with local infrastructure partners, customers, and regulators. While the partnership will initially focus on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao metropolitan area with a population of over eighty-five million people, Lilium intends to grow throughout China and the wider Asia-Pacific region in the future. Lilium is currently in the process of opening its regional headquarters in Bao’an Low Altitude Economy Industry Public Service Centre and is the first European eVTOL manufacturer to open a regional office in this district. The regional headquarters will support Lilium Jet’s sales, services and support in China and the Asia-Pacific region. Lilium will also handle certification and validation in China, which is expected to account for around 25 per cent of the global eVTOL market in the future. By establishing the regional headquarters in China, Lilium will create new jobs in the Shenzhen region. Local hiring is expected to begin this year, with a focus on commercial activities. Production of the Lilium Jet began at the end of last year at Lilium’s headquarters near Munich in Germany. The first pilot flight is planned for the end of 2024. According to Lilium, the electric aircraft, which will primarily be used as an air taxi, has a range of 250 kilometres and reaches a cruising speed of 280 kilometres per hour.” #Lilium #aviation #electricaircraft #VTOL #BEV #airtaxis #netzero #guptasmartenergy #V2X #V2G #V2L #voltageimbalance #voltageharmonics

Is the global eVTOL industry prepared to match China’s ambitions? China has unveiled an audacious plan to revolutionize urban transportation, projecting 100,000 electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOLs) in operation by 2030. According to a report by the China Low Altitude Economic Alliance, these futuristic vehicles will serve as family transport, air taxis, and even delivery solutions, marking a seismic shift in mobility infrastructure. The alliance anticipates that major Chinese cities will complete air transportation networks and ground service facilities for low-altitude vehicles within the next two to three years, laying the groundwork for mass production and commercialization of eVTOLs by 2026. The global spotlight on this initiative reflects both optimism and skepticism. Industry experts note that while current eVTOL costs hover around 10 million RMB, prices are expected to plummet as production scales. However, leaders like Johann C. Bordais, CEO of Eve Air Mobility, highlight the challenge of ecosystem readiness over technology: “We have the biggest pre-order book in the industry...but the roadblock will be ecosystem readiness.” The initiative underscores China’s leadership in the burgeoning “Low Altitude Economy.” Unlike the West, where regulatory and infrastructural hurdles remain significant, China’s national strategy could see state investments, streamlined regulations, and expedited industry growth. Other global markets, including the Middle East and the U.S., are progressing more cautiously. While companies such as Archer, Joby Aviation, and AutoFlight prepare for their launches around 2026, the West’s fragmented infrastructure and regulatory challenges stand in stark contrast to China’s integrated approach. Can China’s ambitious timeline catalyze global competition in the eVTOL sector?
