World Toilet Day and why it matters! 🚻🌍
Today, on World Toilet Day, we focus on a critical issue that often goes unnoticed—access to proper sanitation. Established by the United Nations in 2013, this day highlights the importance of toilets and their role in improving health, dignity, and safety worldwide.
But why is this day so important?
🔹 Health & hygiene: Without proper toilets, communities face higher risks of diseases like cholera and diarrhoea, which can be life-threatening, especially for children.
🔹 Dignity & safety: Access to a clean, safe toilet is a matter of dignity and personal safety. For many, especially women and girls, lack of proper sanitation can lead to unsafe situations.
🔹 Equality for people with disabilities: This year's theme focuses on the impact on individuals with disabilities. People with disabilities often face additional barriers in accessing sanitation facilities. Inclusive design and accessible toilets are very important to ensure that everyone can enjoy their basic human rights.
At Changing Places Denmark, we are committed to our determination to make a change regarding fully accessible toilet facilities for ALL people with severe disabilities. These facilities include extra space, adult-sized changing benches, and hoists, ensuring that everyone can use the toilet with dignity and comfort.
Our friends over Changing Places Norge are setting a remarkable example with their recent initiatives. Håvard Ravn Ottesen and his team are implementing numerous Changing Places facilities, making public spaces more inclusive and accommodating for people with disabilities.
We look forward to working together with other Nordic countries to build a world where everyone has access to safe and dignified sanitation. 🌟

Visste du at:
