Here are 3 tips that apply to every mix and will let you know if your mix is actually ready for mastering... 1. Balance - Try to have a listen and make sure that we can hear (or atleast feel) every element in the track. 2. Frequencies & Resonances - Always use your ears (and not your eyes!) to listen for things that need to be addressed including overlapping & blending frequencies or consistently protruding resonances. 3. Stereo & Width - Place your elements properly across the left, the center, and the right sides of your stereo image so that everything has its place while still feeling balanced on both sides.

An unremarked upon but totally central skill to both strategy and creative is metaphor. Being able to recognise and conceptualise how similar two unrelated things are. E.g. Kermit singing Talking Heads https://lnkd.in/ea7Y7XBP

5 more common mistakes when mastering: 1. Neglecting stereo width: Either making the track too wide or too narrow. 2. Improper fade-outs: Fades that are too abrupt or too gradual. 3. Bad dithering: Incorrect dithering settings that introduce noise. 4. Mismatched sample rate conversion: Causing artifacts by not properly converting sample rates. 5. Ignoring intersample peaks: Failing to manage peaks that aren't visible in traditional peak meters but can cause distortion in digital-to-analog conversion. #MusicProductionTips #MusicTips #MasteringTips
