👇In 2021, the Edgelands Institute embarked on an insightful journey: establishing residencies in different cities around the world to deepen our understanding of security and the urban social contract. Two years on, here's a snapshot of some of the key insights:
1️⃣🇨🇴Medellín: Security is not limited to crime control, but encompasses social well-being. Fostering trust between residents and the state is fundamental.
2️⃣🇨🇴Cúcuta: Local involvement in humanitarian projects promotes the integration of migrants and strengthens security and social cohesion.
3️⃣🇰🇪Nairobi: Understanding the interdependence between local and national governance systems is crucial, as it affects perceptions of urban security and the responsibilities of different actors.
4️⃣🇨🇭Geneva: The urban social contract must include the private sector, whose role in providing technical services is central to security. Collaboration between public institutions, private companies, and civil society organisations is key.
Building on these insights, we're excited to announce the Intercity Digital Pop-up! 🎉
Inspired by the right to digital integrity recently added to the Geneva Constitution, this pop-up will bring together the Edgelands network to explore how this right can be interpreted and applied in the different contexts of these cities.
This pop-up promises to be a thought-provoking and meaningful discussion on how cities can navigate security and our ability to live together in the digital age.
Stay tuned for more information. We're looking forward to this journey with you. 🚀
