When reaching out for job assistance to someone on LinkedIn, your approach can make all the difference. Here’s how to do it effectively: ☑️ Don’t just say, “I’ve applied, now please tell me what to do.” This can come across as desperate rather than dedicated. ☑️ Clearly mention your skills, the job you’re seeking, and your location. Provide all relevant details to make it easier for them to help. ☑️ Always attach your resume. It allows the person to quickly assess if there’s a fit. ☑️ Busy professionals might only give one glance to your message. Providing all necessary details upfront makes it easier for them to help. If key info is missing, they may not respond, and you could miss out. ☑️ Thank them for their time and be considerate in your communication. Make it easy for people to help you by being clear and concise. You never know—your next opportunity might be just one message away!

One of the major reasons why I share testimonies of my clients is because it's incredibly fulfilling to see the positive impact I can make in people’s lives. My amazing client, whom I worked with in July 2023, has just landed his dream job🎉Working on this project was unique and tasking because although I had experience in the Canadian job market, my client was transitioning from architecture to climate change and sustainability which was new terrain for me. After doing my research, I started by revamping his resume to fit the Canadian job market. Then, I provided guidance and shared my personalized templates on cold emails and cover letters. Knowing that I played a part in his success and helped him achieve his career goals brings me so much joy. Plus, sharing these success stories not only inspires others but also helps potential clients understand the value and expertise I can bring to their own journeys. It's a win-win situation! ✅ So, If you're looking to land your dream job like my client did and need guidance, feel free to send me a DM now. Let's work together to make your career goals a reality! 💼 #congratulations #doingthingsdifferently #careerdevelopment #jobseekersupport #heretohelp #resumewriting #linkedingrowth

I often get someone to proofread my LinkedIn posts before I post, they sound great in my mind but to the reader they can make little sense. It’s a good idea to get someone to read over your CV before you apply for a role, not only to check grammar, but to make sure the reader knows exactly what you mean. Sentences can be misconstrued, words can be taken out of context, or you’re relying on the reader to “read between the lines”. This can be especially prevalent if you’re changing industry, there may be terms that are industry specific, or achievements that aren’t appreciated by the uninitiated. For example, describing Michelin star food as “fine” and describing my wife’s food as “fine” is definitely not the same thing. I’m not married. #recruitment #CVtips #hiring

When a company posts a job, think of it as a pain point. There's a problem they need to solve. Fish it out. Then, when you apply, present yourself as the solution to that pain point. Your resume is a marketing document. Speak to THAT job. Not your overall history.

"Love your family so much?" That’s great - but it's not going to land you a job! I just received an enquiry, and while the sentiment is lovely (see image for details), it begs the question: How does this information help your job application? Here’s something I almost never include on a resume - Interests, Hobbies and family details. Why? Because hiring managers and recruiters are focused on your skills, experience, and achievements, NOT on whether you play soccer, enjoy swimming, or love your family. When crafting a resume, the goal is to demonstrate your value to the employer and align with the role you’re applying for. Anything that doesn’t directly support that goal is, frankly, a distraction. Remember, your resume is your professional story - not a personal diary. Focus on the task at hand: presenting yourself as the best candidate for the job!

You are not a cliché! But your resume makes you sound like one. That means you're not standing out from the crowd. How can you stand out from the crowd? Identify your professional brand and use it. Your professional brand showcases your value proposition for a potential employer. Start your resume off with your professional brand. You want someone to understand what your value is to them immediately when they read your resume or LinkedIn profile. You don’t want to sound like everyone else. How do you figure out what your professional brand is? Ask yourself: ► What am I known for? ►Where have I provided the greatest value to previous employers? ►What impact have I made? These elements will provide the foundation for differentiating yourself with a professional brand. Your professional brand can be a statement or a series of statements. Avoid cliches at all costs. How will you stand out if you sound like everyone else? Once you know your professional brand, integrate it into how you speak about yourself when networking and interviewing. Your confidence will explode when you see people respond to it. Your professional brand is the reason you’ve been successful. It’s why you’ll be successful in your next role. Be a savvy job seeker and include your professional brand on your resume. #savvyjobseeker #jobsearch #resumewriting
