i would be completely turned off by this cover letter. why? first of all, it is so easy (especially with ai...) to write an "interesting" general letter that looks good on paper, but doesn't actually say anything at all. this letter actually says nothing. it might as well be an episode of seinfeld. it doesn't say anything about the company or why they see themselves at this company specifically, why they want to work at THIS company, what they bring to the company or why the company specifically is a good fit for them. they could have spammed this letter to everyone from a grocery store to a marketing firm to a cat cafe to a gas station - there isn't even a mention of industry-specific skills or interests. good cover letters should have solid base data and not be copy-paste spams. the interviews can go from there. and before anyone jumps on with "recruiters don't even READ the letters so who cares!?" - clearly this recruiter did. and i know at my company we do. do you really want to risk the recruiter at your dream job being someone who DOES read a letter and not send them a good one? plus, "why bother?" isn't exactly an appealing attitude in a work candidate - so starting your job search from that perspective has a good change of hindering your search anyway as it might be evident in your job searching activities i know there are a lot of "open to work" people in my network. hope this helps!
We have gotten so many incredible applications for our five open associate attorney positions. But we are only granting 20 interviews… What do you think about this cover letter? How Does Legal Recruiting Work? Employers assess their staffing requirements based on workload, growth plans, or to replace outgoing staff. Vacancies are advertised on legal job boards, law school career services, and through recruitment agencies. Direct outreach is also common for high-profile candidates. Candidates submit resumes, cover letters, and often additional documents like transcripts or writing samples. Initial screenings are followed by multiple interview rounds, which may include phone/video calls, in-person interviews, and panel assessments. Feedback from interviews is reviewed, and a decision is made. Offers are extended to the selected candidate. The terms of the offer are negotiated, and upon agreement, the candidate formally accepts.
