There is a huge fund-raiser, at one time the largest single fundraiser they did, for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in the U.S. called the Texas MS-150 Bike Tour. Each April, 13,000 riders and even more support staff move a small city from Houston once to Austin, Texas, and now to College Station, Texas. At roughly 60 miles, or about 2/3 of the way on the first day, when you’re tired and weak, the journey seems much longer than you imagined or trained for, and you have less left in your physical tank than you thought…along comes the town of Fayetteville, Texas. If you know what’s coming next, you know it’s truly an awesome (not overstated) experience. If you don’t know what’s next, it will change your world. As you ride into town headed west down the Main Street and Highway, you see a few older buildings and homes up ahead like many small towns. Then you hear it, and soon you see it. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of people lining the side of the road yelling, screaming, cheering, singing, dancing to the music. Suddenly, you realize it’s YOU they are doing this for. This is a calculated effort by the town and the County to spur tourism, and they are sure to include information about Fayetteville and Fayette County in your MS-150 Information Packet. But for the riders, the feeling is indescribable. You suddenly feel like you can accomplish ANYTHING, and you don’t care that they are doing this for everyone…not just you, because that doesn’t matter. It’s here when you need it the most. I tried to put together two videos to do some justice to what this journey looks and feels like. The first is mine, shot with a poor-quality phone in 2006. The second is “borrowed” from someone named Michael Weekley in 2017 (link is below). Maybe with these, you can try and catch just a tiny glimpse of how special this is and why I’m getting a little misty just writing about it and watching the ride again. I’m not sure if the town of Fayetteville still does this, but may God Bless you all for doing it at all, and for so many years. When you’re near the end of things, and it’s not going as well as you would like, and you are down and discouraged…Think of Fayetteville, watch this a few times, and remember someone is cheering you on that you didn’t know about or see coming until it’s all around you, just waiting for you to look up and take it in. Let's Tim it up! Topic: Fees, Fees, Fees I can relate to this. Every store, restaurant, and drive-through includes some fee + a "suggested tip." I went to a local Big Sports Store. They had an 8% local improvement fee + a sales tax, so I paid local sales tax + 8%. That was my last time going to that store. Would you like to round up for a charity? Trust me, I donate to my favorite charities, such as vets and local animal rescues; I feel guilty saying no. I lived in Europe for nine years and loved the VAT (Value Added Tax); the price was the price, and it wasn't customary to give a tip, so this video is pretty accurate. Don't get me wrong; I usually tip well if the service and food warrant it. However, it feels more like an entitlement vs. what tips were meant to represent. What is your opinion? Tim

When school fundraising is more than selling chocolates.............(thank you God) Mattea's school - Bradfield College at St Leonards is having a raffle to raise much needed funds. There are some amazing prizes (see the link below) and tickets are only $10 each or you can buy packs of 5 or 10 at a reduced cost. And the good news is.............I have donated 2 coaching sessions and a Clifton Strengths Finder all 34 as a prize. If you would like to take a bet on something that gives you more chances of winning than lotto (the first division prize your chances are 1 in 3,575,880) then invest $10 for an excellent cause and a much better opportunity to win some really good prizes including coaching sessions with me. I would love it if one of my LinkedIn contacts or my clients won this. #strengthbaseddevelopment #leadershipdevelopment #emotionalintelligence #investincommunity
