What They Don’t Teach In Design School With Guest Kate Lester Design schools tend to focus on the creative process in interior design, but fall short when it comes to teaching the business side of the industry. In this episode of Inside Design, our incredibly talented friend and colleague, Kate Lester, shares valuable insights to help you run a more successful design business! SPONSOR: Norwalk Furniture Listen to today’s episode here: https://spoti.fi/3I46Lve?? Watch today’s episode on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gwa7jsui Key Takeaways: 1. Get at least five years of real world experience before you even THINK of going out on your own. Make mistakes on someone else’s dime first. 2. If your scope of work is very fluid and your efficiency is at the mercy of others (i.e. contractors), billing hourly vs flat fee is the smarter way to go. 3. Above all, stay in your lane and remain true to yourself no matter what your creative peers are doing! #NorwalkFurniture, #InsideDesignPodcast, #KandracAndKole, #WomenPodcasters, #InteriorDesignBusiness, #MarketResearch, #BusinessTips, #KnowYourMarket, #KateLester,

Stop focusing on the product—focus on the space around it. Design isn't just decoration. It's atmosphere. Think about it: 1. The right space can transform a product. 2. Atmosphere drives emotion—emotion drives sales. 3. Create a setting that elevates the product's story. Design the space first. The product will shine naturally. Remember: 4. A well-designed space turns a product into an experience. 5. It’s the environment that sells, not just the item. When you master the space, you master the impact. On the video you can see one of my mentors and one of the greatest person who inspired many, created many and educated many.

🌟 Season 6, Episode 3 Recap: Maximizing Your Impact with Effective Trade Show Sales Strategies 🎤 On this past season of Thrive in Design, we were joined by the incredible Lauren Henley McKinnon, an expert in sales strategy with over 20 years of experience in the interior design industry! From working with brands like Williams Sonoma and Steelcase, Lauren shared powerful insights on how designers can use trade shows to elevate their brands and maximize business growth. 🎉 Key Takeaways: Visual Appeal & Signage: Your booth must be eye-catching! Use bold colors and large letters (think 10 inches for 100 feet visibility!) to make a strong first impression from afar. 🎨📏 National vs. Regional Trade Shows: National shows like BDNY, NeoCon, and HD Vegas offer larger reach but require higher investment. For smaller budgets, regional shows like NEWH or Be More Design Expo offer excellent opportunities to connect with decision-makers in your area. 🏙️🌍 Smart Investments: Whether you're new to the game or a seasoned pro, you have to align your budget and strategy to get the best ROI from trade show participation. 💡💰 Ready to level up your trade show game? Signage Professional Partnering with Property Developers, Architects & General Contractors to Enhance Spaces in the USA. [email protected]
Good morning and Happy Thursday to you! I am working away and listening to the Interior Design Podcast on Spotify, the current episode features a fascinating guest, author of The Little Book of Colour—it sounds like a must-read for anyone keen to understand the powerful impact of colour on human emotion and perception (adds to basket! 📚) (link to episode in the comments!) In my work with developers, general contractors, architects and interior designers, we focus on creating signage for multifamily, hospitality, healthcare and commercial properties. My advertising background taught me that colour does more than just fill a space; it evokes specific emotions and sets the tone for residents, visitors, and employees alike. I’m intrigued by how our signage designs amplify these emotional cues. Every colour choice our designers make affects how people feel and reinforces the building’s purpose. A fascinating topic and a reminder that colour isn’t just a design choice; it’s an emotional journey. Have a signage project that my team and I at Modulex can help bring to life? I’d love to chat!
