A lot of Advisers get pretty grumpy coming up to EOFY 🥵 All of the ADMIN, the follow up, chasing clients xyz... The result of being either: 1. Under-supported 2. Having to take on too many clients One thing we pride ourselves on at Pivot, is providing a top-tier service to our clients. Making sure that our T's are crossed, our I's are dotted & we're identifying every opportunity available to our clients. To do that, our Advice team needs to be supported & have the time to focus on exactly that. What we do is: 1. Every Adviser has a dedicated pod - Associate, CSO, Paraplanner. 2. They take on a book of absolutely no more than 100 clients. 3. Hey folks, let's talk about senior commercial roles for a second. I’ve recruited a boatload of these folks over the years in energy and cleantech, and I gotta say—people throw the word commercial around like it’s some magical, catch-all job description. "Commercial" can mean a million different things. You’ve got the sales guys—always focused on revenue and margins. Then there’s the finance types—living and breathing P&Ls, spreadsheets, and projections. And let’s not forget the legal eagles who can slice and dice a contract like Gordon Ramsay on a bad day. But here’s the thing... when I speak to some MDs asking for a "Commercial Director," they’re basically dreaming up this mythical unicorn who’s supposed to master all three. Spoiler alert: that person doesn’t exist. You’re either getting a sales person who can maybe read and negotiate a contract (but will still need legal backup), or a finance wizard who’s never seen the inside of a client meeting. It’s like trying to find a chef who’s also a master plumber and can fix your car. Sure, they might dabble, but good luck with that. So before you start recruiting your next “Commercial Director,” pick your lane. You want sales? Great. Need a contract wizard? Fantastic. But don’t try to Frankenstein these skills into one person, or you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. Trying to ´sell´ what I do... ❌ It isn´t sexy. ❌It isn´t a product. ❌It´s not one of those ´guaranteed x income in x weeks´ ❌Its not coaching to help you to boost your sales ❌It´s not a gorgeous retreat where you can really work on yourself and your business ❌It´s not talking about anything fun However, it is.. ✔ Something that will certainly ease your workload ✔A partnership with someone who will be truly invested in your business ✔A time saver ✔A peace of mind for when you away or unable to work ✔A phone call away to someone to talk to when you are feeling like you are going it alone ✔A service that most business owners need but don´t realise how much until they take the plunge ✔A way to bounce ideas off someone if you are a solo business owner Making that decision to hire a Virtual Assistant is not one to take lightly, I understand that. The person you decide to work with will have access to your business, and will be communicating with your clients. But, once you have chosen that person, I know that after the settling in period, you WILL find it hard to know how you coped without them. Admin isn´t sexy, but it is essential. Keeping up to date with emails, meetings, documents that need amending, onboarding your clients, off boarding your clients and so much more. I hope you will explore the possibility of working with a VA if you don´t already, and that you find the perfect partner for your business. (oh and I hope that´s me and my team!)
