There is an interesting narrative out there that everyone will issue their stablecoin. Esp. for non-fintechs & fintechs that want to capture NIM. However, isn't issuing a branded stablecoin the same as working with BaaS? There are a few unresolved questions here - What differentiates a deposit at a sponsor bank versus a stablecoin backed by a mixture of cash held at one bank + treasuries held at another broker/custodian - Some say that issuers get more NIM vs BaaS. Is that reg arb? - Any 'deposit holder' via BaaS are technically KYC-ed by the application. Stablecoins, however, adopt the blacklisting approach. Not all holders are KYC-ed.
