Danone made huge profits, and give healthy and increasing dividends to shareholders as seen here https://lnkd.in/ezs39xYZ My email to the Council's planning dep. "I wish to place on record my strong objection to the above planning application by the Danone Harrogate Water Corporation in Harrogate. Considering all we know about climate change, loss of biodiversity and the role that trees and forests play in the eco-system, for nature and our own health, I am amazed that a company that promotes 'clean' Harrogate water to the world is even considering such a regressive development. I walk frequently through and around the Rotary Woods and Pine Woods. A lovely area enjoyed by families, the elderly and many children. Already there a large number of heavy water trucks driving to and from Harrogate Water's plant, they are clearly damaging a public road (a road taxpayers will need to pay for repairing), and these trucks pose a danger to pedestrians and cyclists who share and cross the road. Adding more heavy goods traffic is both non-sensical & not in the interests of people, nor the finances of the council itself. It benefits Danone only. I understand that protected bats and badgers call the woods home. Replanting new trees in place of older growth trees and established woodland is obviously not going to provide a home for these protected species, in fact it will both displace and potentially kill the existing wildlife, including a significant bird population. Whilst Danone's proposal to use durable, harmful chemicals to manage any new woodland further threatens wildlife and your rate payer's health and well-being. Not only is this in direct conflict to the public's interests, I cannot see how Danone's own brand will not be damaged by such measures. There are other matters that Danone's application directly conflicts with or contradicts, including government policy, and the Deciduous Woodland Priority Habitat, Asset of Community Value and Special Landscape area status of Rotary Woods. By itself this surely shows that the application should not be granted, and any future attempts thrown out with it. Danone is a highly profitable multi-national business who can and should afford to find an alternative to this clearly unpopular and regressive plan. They are more than capable of finding profits in other parts of their water businesses across the globe that do not cause so much damage. In fact, it is in their own interests and ESG credentials to put profits second to the well-being of our shared environment, the wildlife that relies and thrives in it currently, and the health and well-being of your rate payers, all our neighbours and their children. Please put local people and the environment before Danone's profits and reject the planning application - they have alternatives".

CELEBRATING WORLD WATER DAY 💧 Today is #WorldWaterDay – a reminder of the urgent need to tackle water scarcity and sanitation challenges worldwide. Fresh water is essential for life, used in everything from drinking to agriculture, yet it's unevenly distributed on Earth. Did you know that 70 % of the world's water is consumed by agriculture? 🌎 As a food retailer, we recognize our role in promoting sustainable practices, and that's why we are committed to conscious water management alongside our valued partners in the supply chain. We believe in already protecting freshwater resources today for the future. 🌊 "With our ambitious water strategy, to which more than 30 countries in which Lidl has stores have committed themselves, we want to set new standards for sustainable water management in our industry," explains Jan Bock, Vice Chief Executive Officer at Lidl in Deutschland. "As a purchaser of water-intensive foods, we have a special responsibility, but also a pioneering role. We are convinced that our efforts in the fruit and vegetable sector can make a valuable contribution to the long-term protection of water resources worldwide." Furthermore, we collaborate with stakeholders to improve water stewardship. Lidl has been an active member of the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) since 2018 and participates in the Agricultural Working Group. Learn more about our responsible water management practices in the slideshow below. 👇 What steps are you taking to utilize water more sustainably? ✨ #abettertomorrow #biodiversity #lidlinternational #teamlidl

We are delighted to announce we have recently passed an audit as part of our Rainforest Alliance partnership, meaning we are licensed for yet another year to use Rainforest Alliance-certified cocoa across all our sites. 🍫🌱 For anyone wondering what Rainforest Alliance-certified actually means, our Internal Audit Manager, Meyuni Dona, explains below... "You may recognise the little green frog on some products at the supermarket, which is the symbol of the Rainforest Alliance Certification Programme. The programme is committed to protecting and improving forests, the climate, human rights, and farmers’ livelihoods. They do this at farm level by promoting sustainable and regenerative farming and ensuring that certified farms provide safe and fair working conditions for their workers. For companies, they encourage responsible business practices and transparency from farm to shelf, helping build stronger supply chains, strengthen consumer loyalty, and achieve sustainability goals." She added: "Many ingredients can be certified by Rainforest Alliance such as coffee, bananas, flowers, herbs & spices, nuts, fruits and many others. At BBF, we buy most of our cocoa powder and chocolate products as Rainforest Alliance-certified.” Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/e8pi2fRd Well done to everyone involved in making this audit a real success, including the vendor assurance, procurement, and wider technical teams!👏🙌 #rainforestalliance #audit #cocoa #sustainable

County-wide food-waste diversion program is looking for more businesses to participate. This next stage is final pilot phase, and will run for six months beginning next month. Businesses are encouraged to sign up over the next three months, so you can take advantage of the advisory services, and the free equipment provided. Businesses that sign up now will benefit from an offered subsidy of over 50 per cent. “The more businesses that participate, the lower the cost for all of the collective businesses,” Katie Motta said. “We are scaling up the pilot so that we can go out to negotiate a competitive RFP, and get our businesses the best price point that is possible on the market today, and provide those savings.” More info here: https://lnkd.in/emYu3dhR ♻🌎⤵ #CircularityMakesBusinessSense #ReduceWasteReduceCosts https://lnkd.in/e_WaKvxG
