As you'd probably expect, Viridium's lovely clients are getting Christmas presents that are wonderfully ethical. This year, within their hampers (which may not actually be hampers - still need to work out the logistics...) we have also included a donation to Zarach. Zarach popped up on my feed a few weeks ago and their mission to provide bed kits for children really hit me. My daughter is now 8 and since she was a tiny baby we have tucked her up in bed every night and read her a story. It is consistently one of the nicest parts of my day. To think there are so many children living in this country that don't even have a decent bed to call their own is beyond heartbreaking and I knew immediately that this is where I wanted Viridium's Christmas donations to go. Donating to a charity that will use the money directly to buy beds for kids rather than the money going into the ether feels like we're doing something meaningful. At the moment, all donations are being matched by the fabulous folk at Aviva so every pound you can donate will be worth £2 to Zarach. If your company hasn't yet decided where to donate to this Christmas or, worse, are considering sending clients a load of plastic tat that will end up in landfill, please consider spending the money somewhere that it'll make lasting positive change. P.S. Donations seem to be matched up to £250, so do it in batches of £250 if you're planning on making a big donation. Why should you donate to Gold For Kids and not direct to children’s charities? This is such a great question, so let us explain. We are drawing on untapped potential cash from dental clinics across the UK and we can raise so much more by enrolling dentists to donate their patients' unwanted crowns and bridge work and other dental restorations. These all contain precious metals which have a cash value. We also ask the public to donate their unwanted, old or broken gold jewellery for the same reason. Dental practices can also suggest charities who are aligned with our mission to address child poverty in the UK, no matter the size, big or small, to apply for money from our grant funding. By donating to Gold for Kids instead of to charities directly, we are able to make an even bigger impact to many more children who desperately need our help. As many of you know, Dave & I are passionate board members for Kids In The Middle (KITM) which supports families going through divorce. Today kicks off our 24 hour annual Giving 4 Kids campaign and we are asking for your support. KITM serves 2,000+ children and families through their counseling services. No one ever wants to have to use Hope's Harbor services. But if you have ever been a caretaker, you know it is not easy. You’re tired, you need a shower, you need a warm meal. You need to be clear headed so you can make important decisions. Hopes Harbor takes care of those who are taking care of a sick or injured child in the hospital-for days, sometimes weeks, sometimes even months.
