Today was an impromptu #VideoBlog (Vlog) day........ I spent a couple of hours this afternoon with our Network Rail 'Wales and Borders' #IntelligentInfrastructure team in Cardiff. And it was high time that the #SelfieStick and #WirelessMicrophones were put into action! We remotely monitor thousands of railway assets across our railway: Switch & Crossing layouts, track circuits, axle counters, power systems, air conditioning, coolers, points heating, flood risk sites, drainage systems, security systems, cables, track geometry, earthworks, structures and more....... Why do we do this? To keep the railway safer, more predictable, more reliable and to better understand our assets in order to optimise our asset inspection, maintenance and renewals programmes. It was good to meet the team, to chat through the progress being made, to see the latest assets being monitored and to talk through our next trials and future ideas. Nicola, our #ReliabilityImprovementSpecialist lead, and I decided to do an impromptu Video Blog and nailed it in a single take. Thanks to Nicola Morgan and the team for the visit today! Cheers Nick. PS: I have now completed the upload of my whole back catalogue of video blogs (100s of them) here: https://lnkd.in/eXaxy2Hh #RailwayFamily #IntelligentInfrastructure #ReliableRailway #TrackWorkerSafety #PredictAndPrevent #RiskBasedMaintenance #TheNicolaAndNickShow #OneTakeWonders #NetworkRailNick #LifeIsBetterInOrange

ICYMI: RSG partnered with the Transportation Research Board's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) to see how weather conditions influence traffic noise on highways. By analyzing data across various weather scenarios and using advanced acoustical monitoring, we provided state DOTs with vital tools to enhance noise abatement strategies. Discover how our work is helping communities manage traffic noise impacts in our detailed case study: https://lnkd.in/gJfFBJ-X #TrafficNoise #TransportationPlanning #Noise #Sound #AcousticsSolutions

Another informative and useful insight from the NSW Resources Regulator. From the brief description of the events, there are two important points to raise: 1. The CAS technology remains open to human interpretation (and mistakes) 2. Vehicle stopping distances, and the corresponding sightline requirements, are normally calculated/determined for ‘ideal’ conditions (alert drivers, level road, dry road surface). However, stopping distances are markedly different for downhill travel on a wet surface, as in this case.

The City of Vernon in partnership with Vernon Fire Rescue Services announced their successful completion of a two-year pilot of SenseNet's emergent early wildfire detection technology, using interconnected fire and smoke detection sensors, gateways, and cameras to detect fires early. Our comprehensive system analyzes data collected through Artificial Intelligence and sends early warnings to firefighters via text or email. The system will continue to operate under the care and control of the City of Vernon, a model for progressive fire prevention. See interview with Vernon Fire Rescue Services Chief Lind, on Global News Okanagan (advance to 6:20): https://lnkd.in/gZ8k74_A See Global News online news story. https://lnkd.in/gFcDuVDJ “Early fire detection can make all the difference,” said Chief David Lind. “To date, we are pleased with how the SenseNet system has been operating and how it has aided in identifying fire incidents in early stages which allowed fire crews to respond more quickly and effectively. This technology gives firefighters the opportunity to start suppressing the fire while it is still manageable, potentially preventing larger, more destructive fires.” #fireseason #communities #wildfirerisk #wildfireprevention #Canadawildfires #firesafety #SenseNet #advancedfiredetection #ai #wildlandsafety #firefighters #wildfiretechnology #environmentalprotection #earlydetection #wildfiremanagement #naturalresourcescanada
