Managing Expectations. After 11 years of being a company Director and 6 years as CEO (5 years Private Equity backed), I thought I knew a few things about managing stakeholder expectations. In a momentary lapse on the weekend, I got it wrong. I had promised my 4-year-old son a trip to the city farm, which I had been talking up all morning. On our way to the compact city farm in the afternoon, I asked him which animal he was looking forward to seeing most. He said “tiger”. It’s a long fall from a tiger to a pig, chicken or goat.

He doesn’t look too disappointed Nick Leader with that awesome happy face 🤩. It’s a great point you make, as Leaders managing expectations is key. Where will you be taking him to see the Tigers though?!?

I’m surprised at this lapse Nick Leader. You’ve been excellent at managing the Monday night rugby crew to expect a brief burst of pace and an immediately tweaked hamstring!

The pig looks a bit “tigery”. I’m sure you could have sold him that!

Managing expectations is such a crucial skill, both personally and professionally! It’s interesting how our perceptions can differ so much—what strategies do you use to align those expectations effectively? On a different note, I’d love to connect with you! Please feel free to send me a request.

He is still smiling though so you clearly did something right, notwithstanding the absence of any tigers!

Well, communication issue…. The clarity here is crucial 😁 On the other hand it looks that maybe the trip to Zoo next weekend would be recommended - definitely the chance of meeting tiger there will be better - and everyone will be happy 👌

Important lesson indeed. Clear communication to all stakeholders is key. Based on the smile on his face, the pigs and chickens were satisfying enough.

You must have an amazing assistant who was able to organise those “tiger pigs” at the last minute…

That’s a matter of opinion.. pigs are so funny and just like a Tiger will eat you given the chance😂😂😂

Those pigs could definitely pass for tigers with a bit of creative licence
