Legit question… how often are people jumping onto a zoom call, with a totally random “connection”, because “it might make sense”, to “explore possible synergies”? Is this seriously a thing?

I'd be happy to answer that another time, interesting question - we'll circle back around to that. I'll add it to the parking lot. (Throws up in mouth)

Worded that way, no. Requests to meet and discuss each other's advocacy efforts, numerous times.

I'm usually pretty open to conversation about collaborations and/or growing the business, but if I'm stepping out of the shop to hop on a zoom call that at a minimum will be 45+ minutes, it won't be for a random "let's explore possible synergies" talk.

That’s how we have been doing our business development for the past couple of years and results have been great.

Never heard about such approach, could be interesting, also, it could be risky from the cybersecurity point of view.

Z-E-R-O Agreed, super annoying!

I encourage this approach when networking in small business groups. Learning about other businesses’ services helps me connect them with my network when opportunities arise. It’s not always a fit, but when it is, it can lead to valuable collaborations. Why not give it a try?

It usually means can I get you to waste an hour of your time while I hump your leg and try to sell you something. So… mostly NO!

For me, the answer is: never. If it’s not someone I know, that needs to be a legitimate connection. Which could be something as simple as “hey I’m a headhunter, I work in your space in your industry, I saw your profile and I want to see if we could connect and I could get you into my network.“
