In Westminster today with others from the #infrastructure industry to talk about how to optimise the front-end of major projects to ensure successful delivery and maximise #productivity, by bringing together commercial, engineering and finance early to understand money flow, #value and #risk. The need for #leadership rather than just #management is also key, part of which is ensuring that optionality doesn’t hinder decision making.

Have you ever spoken to someone and later learned they unintentionally assumed a word you used had a different meaning than what was intended? Without addressing it, this situation could create real issues that will have to be addressed. In a business context, this can include the terms “strategic initiative” and “operational project” While these two may seem similar on the surface, they are really very different. Today’s article discusses why and explores what the real distinction between the two terms is really rooted in. https://lnkd.in/gpkveggA #strategicinitiative #operationalproject #ERM #erminsights #riskmanagement #planning #strategy

This is one crucial question you need to be asking. In any project, stakeholders may have different perspectives and opinions on whether a plan will succeed. However, by focusing on the conditions that need to be true for success, stakeholders can often find common ground. To help articulate these assumptions and conditions, ask the following question: ❓ "What would need to be true for this to work?" This helps bridge potential disagreements and facilitates agreement on the critical underlying assumptions. The question prompts the team to consider potential risks or constraints. We need to be future orientated. Focusing solely on "what is true" limits the scope of planning to the constraints of the present reality. Shift the focus towards envisioning the desired state or conditions required for success. #projectmanagement #riskmanagement #planning #change #transformation #strategy #risk #project #assumptions

Governance is one of those concepts subject to myriad interpretations. Governance is defined as providing direction and control, to which I then add capability. The three legs of governance are therefore direction through a clear strategy and purpose, control through an executable business plan, and capability through people. At its core, governance is anchored in strategy, not compliance; its centre of gravity is judgment, rather than process. #governance #direction #control #capability #director #board #information #decision #strategy #effectiveness #onepage #definition #corporate #afr
