At Next Gen Makers, we recognise the best employers in the UK for engineering #apprenticeships - and help any company to get to that level. We do this via the ‘Engineering Apprenticeships: Employer Kitemark’ accreditation, backed by industry body Make UK and achieved via our Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme. But what value does the Kitemark hold for young aspiring #engineers? How does it help to shape their choices and set employers apart from the crowd? We recently spoke with Jacob Church, engineering apprentice at Teledyne e2v, (who have achieved the Gold standard ‘Excellent Employer’ status of for the Kitemark 2 years running) regarding what it means to him as a young person for his employer to care enough about their apprentices experiences to pursue accreditation – and why he believes the Kitemark helps other young people to distinguish between employers when choosing where to pursue an engineering apprenticeship. Today, we had the privilege of attending an event at the Senedd, where we heard from the ECA and members of the Welsh government about the exciting future of the electrical industry. One key takeaway? The vital role apprentices play in shaping that future. At DMJones, we firmly believe that apprenticeships are more than just a pathway for individuals to learn a trade—they’re an investment in the future of our industry. However, the lack of apprenticeships is concerning. If we’re to meet the growing demands of our sector, we need to address this together. Collaboration across the sector is key. By fostering the next generation of skilled professionals, we can ensure innovation, reliability, and growth for years to come. Let’s create more opportunities, inspire new talent, and build a brighter future for all. #Apprenticeships #ElectricalIndustry #FutureOfWork #Teamwork

Education shouldn't be just about the qualification, but also about meaningful destinations for the students once they leave. In my opinion, one of the main issues with education is there isn't enough specific sector based career guidance and support, leaving some students feeling lost when they leave. This week I had a visit to UTC Warrington to catch up with Christopher Hatherall. It was my first visit and I was absolutely blown away by the work Chris and his team are doing. I've worked at and visited, a number of schools, colleges and universities, and I've never seen a more destination focused place than UTC Warrington. The links they have with industry is impressive, but was more impressive was the big posters in the lecturer theatre showing all the students that had gained Level 3 and Degree Apprenticeships in the previous 12 months. Also very interesting to see that a number of Tier 1 companies are using the UTC as a talent pipeline to fill their apprenticeships, which shows the quality of the students they are producing. So if you are a parent in the Warrington area and want your child to follow a technical route (either apprenticeship or university) then I would fully advise you to consider the UTC as an option. #apprenticeships #technicaleducation #studentsuccess

We had a full house at our Apprenticeship Night! NEWTech hosted representatives from 11 different apprenticeships across the Spokane Region to inform families and students about the various apprenticeship opportunities available after high school. Did you know that NEWTech is a state-registered pre-apprenticeship program for our electrical, construction, and welding courses? This means that students who complete their education at NEWTech have a head start in entering apprenticeship programs compared to those who haven’t completed a pre-apprenticeship program. #connectwithnewtech
