I am trying to figure out what to do next in terms of my career. Software engineering is something that I got into because I was passionate about technology and curious about how the world worked. I never really intended it as a career path, I just ended up with the right skills to get hired into the role. Towards the very end of my time working at Bloomberg, I was working on a distributed caching system for way too long which led me to realize that I could treat it as a stochastic ensemble and try to get probabilistic estimates of the system's performance envelope that way. I One of the first references I bought was a text on symbolic dynamics, which I recently remembered because I came across shift sequences in the context of analysis on self-similar sets. I can't really scope my career goals any more precisely than ‘I want to make a lot of money.’ Perhaps that's because careers are means and not ends, and therefore my usual approach to conceptualizing teleology is completely inapplicable in this domain.

🌟 Excited to Share My Summer Project! 🌟 This summer, I had the opportunity to dive into financial econometrics through an in-depth Portfolio Analysis and Financial Risk Assessment project at the University of Central Florida. Using data from five asset classes over a five-year period, I: 📊 Conducted statistical analyses to evaluate asset performance and risk exposure. 📈 Developed an efficient portfolio frontier using Markowitz Portfolio Theory. ⚖️ Calculated key metrics like Sharpe ratios and Value-at-Risk (VaR) to optimize asset allocation strategies. This project allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world data, enhancing my skills in financial modeling, data analysis, and decision-making tools like R Studio. I’m thrilled to continue building on these experiences as I seek opportunities in financial analysis. Hi Network! I had the incredible opportunity to attend the "Navigating Career Success in Data: CVs, LinkedIn, and Hiring Insights" webinar hosted by Black in Data in collaboration with J.P. Morgan. It was an amazing experience filled with invaluable insights and knowledge. A huge thank you to Sadiqah Musa and Nikki Law for making this possible as well as to all the speakers Olu Sowunmi, Chinyere Eke, Bunmi Aworanti, Ade Onigbanjo, and Rob Lowth for sharing their invaluable insight. Two key takeaways for me were: Rob Lowth's session on the application process and interview preparation. He highlighted the STAR method, the importance of preparing good questions, researching the role and company, being proactive, and knowing your CV thoroughly. Olu Sowunmi's CV workshop, which was my favourite part. He emphasised that our CVs should reflect us, as they are our first point of contact with recruiters. Key tips included focusing on achievements rather than responsibilities, starting early and investing time in your CV, and capturing job-specific keywords. Today I am celebrating my 2-year anniversary at Bloomberg, which feels like a milestone that truly encapsulates my nonlinear and nontraditional journey. 🎉 Three years ago, I made the tough decision to leave the classroom in the midst of the pandemic, seeking a life that centered my mental health. The transition wasn’t easy, but it led me to my first recruitment role at Teach for America. Shortly after, I took my first step into the tech industry at Google, and a year later, I found an opportunity for even greater growth at Bloomberg. Since joining Bloomberg, I’ve been able to leverage my teaching skills to elevate our Sourcing Team. I’ve had the honor of starting a pilot program in Mexico, leading technical preparation programs, joining a technical mentorship initiative, and expanding my network in ways I never imagined. 🌍🤝 Here are three lessons I've learned during my time at Bloomberg: 1. Take risks: My journey has taught me that risk-taking is in my DNA, but it can be intimidating in a corporate setting. By taking risks, I’ve pushed myself into discomfort, which in return has allowed me to grow as a professional, especially within the programs I run. 🚀 2. Ask for help: I’m privileged to work with some of the smartest people in the industry. By being vulnerable and asking for help, I’ve been able to work more efficiently and effectively. Vulnerability invites others to see your true, authentic self, fostering deeper connections and collaboration. 🙌 3. Build your brand: Building your brand is essential because it invites people into your work. Define how you want to be known, and let your work speak for itself. 💡 I want to take a moment to thank the incredible people who have paved the way for me on this journey at Bloomberg. Special thanks to my manager Devin Cox, my colleagues Amy Mutz , Kristie Ramdeo, Matthew Pierce, Julio Nicolas Bueno, my mentor Erick Ruiz de Chavez and so many others for your guidance, support, and encouragement.
