Don't measure your SEO campaign on traffic and revenue in the first few months. You're not seeing the full picture, and you're going to be discouraged. The truth is, traffic and revenue are NOT the first metrics that you're going to see move. The good news is that you can tell if things are moving in the right direction in SEO before you even see traffic and revenue increase. Here are two metrics to look at early on in an SEO campaign: 1. Search Impressions 2. Keyword Rankings Here's why: Search impressions are how many times your website appeared in the search results for a particular keyword. This is always going to increase before your traffic increases. If you're consistently growing your search impressions, traffic is going to follow it. Now for keywords... A lot of SEO is about keywords. That's why measuring your keywords is a good way to determine if you're going in the right direction. Now, that's assuming you're targeting the right keywords, which is a post for another day. If you're in the first few months of implementing SEO, don't get discouraged. Look at your keyword rankings and your search impressions. If they're both improving, then stick it out. You'll start getting results soon.
