What drives our decision-making processes? One way to break it down is to consider whether we’re more logically-driven or more emotionally-driven. Like so many things, it’s a spectrum - and there’ll be contexts where we do one and contexts where we do the other. Most of us, though, being creatures of habit, have a natural propensity towards one or the other. There’s no value judgement on this, of course, but it can be useful to remember that everyone’s brain works very differently. So, maybe next time you’re clashing with someone over a decision you need to make, it may be worth considering whether they’re simply being driven by something different to you! Where do you lie on this one? 💙 #LearningAndDevelopment #LandD #PersonalDevelopment

🔔 Don’t rush to ask your 2-year-old to unload the dishwasher... but take inspiration from it for your teams! 🌟 Harvard’s famous Grant Study, conducted over 85 years, has shown that giving responsibilities to children at a young age boosts their future success by developing both emotional confidence and practical skills. This autonomy allows them to face life’s challenges with assurance and effectiveness. In the workplace, this model is just as relevant. Providing employees with autonomy in their tasks, while incorporating phases of oversight and feedback, helps them develop both emotional and functional confidence, benefiting their well-being and collective performance. It’s not about leaving them to work alone, but offering the space to contribute effectively while staying aligned with group goals. 💼🤝 Structured autonomy is the key to strong engagement and lasting success, for both the individual and the company. ✅ 🔗 Source: Vaillant, George E; McArthur, Charles C.; Bock, Arlie, 2022; "Grant Study of Adult Development, 1938-2000", Harvard Dataverse #Leadership #Autonomy #Wellbeing #Success #Engagement #HarvardStudy #CompanyCulture #Management #Data

#weekendthoughts Having a personal vision is no less important than having a business vision. It is my major powerful insight I've gained over years of working with people. Vision guides our choices and serves as the fundamental tool we unconsciously employ when connecting with others, making daily decisions, and responding to life's challenges. It conditions our minds as one of the most sophisticated tools that influence our journey toward achieving our goals. When we set new objectives, we must shape our self-vision to align with the outcomes we seek. This process is transformative, determining whether our achievements are driven by mere obligation or by a genuine passion for progress 💡 A personal vision acts like a reliable GPS or compass, providing balance and guiding our priorities through life. Individuals with a clear self-vision are invaluable in the workplace, as their decision-making is rooted in values and growth objectives. This clarity enables employers to design effective motivational systems and offer advancement opportunities, fostering open communication and attracting further success. Do you see yourself as someone who embodies this clarity of vision? It's never too late to cultivate it and unlock your inner power, enhancing both personal and professional fulfillment. #personalgrowth #goalsetting #selfleadership #motivation #coaching

📚 Book Spotlight: The Evolving Self by Robert Kegan 📚 I recently finished reading Robert Kegan’s transformative book, The Evolving Self, and it’s a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the intricacies of human development. Kegan, a prominent psychologist, presents a compelling framework for how we evolve through various stages of consciousness and meaning-making. His theory posits that we move from a simplistic understanding of the world to increasingly complex and integrated perspectives. One fascinating idea from the book is Kegan’s concept of the “subject-object shift,” where aspects of our experience that we once were subject to become objects we can reflect on. This shift is pivotal for personal growth and is a core component of moving through Kegan’s stages of development. Consider these intriguing statistics related to personal and professional development: ▪️According to the Harvard Business Review, 58% of managers report that transitioning from being an individual contributor to a manager is one of the most challenging stages in their career. ▪️A Gallup study found that only 18% of managers demonstrate a high level of talent for managing others – suggesting that most leaders could benefit from deeper self-awareness and developmental growth. Kegan’s work is particularly relevant in today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world. Understanding these stages can enhance our leadership capabilities, improve our interpersonal relationships, and foster a more adaptive mindset. The Evolving Self has given me valuable insights into my own developmental journey and has highlighted the importance of continual growth and self-reflection. If you’re looking to deepen your understanding of human behavior and drive your personal and professional development, this book is an excellent resource. Have you explored Kegan’s theories before? How have they influenced your personal or professional growth? #Leadership #PersonalDevelopment #Psychology #GrowthMindset #BookRecommendation
