A recent study led by Attal Nadine and Didier Bouhassira, published in Pain in collaboration with Alvaro Pereira and Samuel Branders, has validated a predictive algorithm developed by the Cognivia team to forecast patient responses to motor cortex repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (M1-rTMS) for neuropathic pain. Key performance highlights of the algorithm include: - Excellent sensitivity and specificity in predicting a strong response to M1-rTMS (≥50% pain relief). - High specificity and good sensitivity in predicting a moderate response to M1-rTMS (≥30% pain relief). This simple, user-friendly model offers a personalized approach to treating chronic pain, helping clinicians tailor therapies for each patient. At Cognivia, we are proud to see our team's expertise and efforts advancing precision medicine in pain management through predictive technology. We are thrilled to announce the publication of 'Clinical study of a micro-implantable pulse generator for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain: 12-month results from the COMFORT-randomized controlled trial'. 1-year results include the following highlights (N=61): • 87% of patients experienced 50% or more pain relief. • 69% average pain reduction. • 95% of patients reported overall improvement. John Hatheway, MD, lead investigator for the COMFORT RCT trial, adds specific details: “This study demonstrated that Nalu PNS therapy provided robust, consistent, and durable statistically significant improvement in pain, disability, quality of life, and mood. This level of long-term improvement from PNS across a spectrum of anatomic areas has not been previously reported. It is also important to note that beyond significant, long-term reduction in pain, patients with the Nalu PNS System are typically able to get back to a more satisfying experience of life.” Congratulations to all of the authors! Kaye - Interventions for Sacroiliac Dysfunction 🌐🎥 Watch the full lecture at: https://lnkd.in/gFdMWUz2 In this session on sacroiliac (SI) dysfunction, Dr. Alan Kaye from LSU Health Science Center covers the anatomy, causes, diagnosis, and treatment options for SI joint issues. He emphasizes clinical diagnosis and physical exams over imaging, highlighting the gold standard of SI joint injections for confirmation. Conservative treatments often fall short for chronic cases, leading to advanced interventions like radiofrequency ablation, regenerative medicine, SI fusion, and peripheral nerve stimulation. Recent studies show mixed results, but innovative treatments hold promise. The evolving algorithm incorporates these methods to improve patient outcomes in managing sacroiliac dysfunction. It is unclear why #NeckPain persists or resolves, making assessment and management decisions challenging. #Muscle composition, particularly muscle fat infiltrate (MFI), is related to neck pain, but it is unknown whether MFI changes with recovery following targeted interventions. Here, led by Prof. Suzanne Snodgrass, we compared muscle composition in individuals with and without chronic idiopathic neck pain at two times 6 months apart. MFI decreases with recovery from neck pain but increases when neck pain persists, suggesting MFI may inform #diagnosis and #prognosis. Future development of a clinical test for MFI may assist in identifying patients who will benefit from targeted muscle intervention, improving outcomes. https://lnkd.in/gjRexYpF Kenneth A. 🚀 Exciting News from Our Latest Research! We are thrilled to announce the publication of our new study in the Journal of Pain Research, which introduces the "Pronation Compensation Sign" as a valuable addition to the diagnostic tools for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). 🔍 About the Study: Our latest work explores how weakness in the abductor pollicis brevis (APB) muscle, caused by CTS, can be demonstrated with this easy test. The "Pronation Compensation Sign" provides a reliable, visual, and non-invasive method that complements existing diagnostic approaches, enhancing the precision of CTS diagnosis in various clinical settings. 📊 Key Findings: Our preliminary trial included 18 hands diagnosed with CTS and 18 without, demonstrating: 100% sensitivity and specificity for the "Pronation Compensation Sign." Perfect positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of 1.000. 👩⚕️👨⚕️ Implications for Practice: This sign is not meant to be used alone but as part of a comprehensive diagnostic strategy. It is particularly useful for clinicians to quickly and accurately assess potential CTS, especially useful in settings where traditional, more invasive tests may not be feasible. 🔗 Read more about our findings and the potential impact on clinical practice in the full article here. https://lnkd.in/gPdRjFGc We invite all healthcare professionals to explore this new diagnostic tool and share your experiences. Your feedback will be invaluable as we continue to refine and validate its application in diverse settings. We are excited to see how the "Pronation Compensation Sign" will aid clinicians worldwide in diagnosing CTS with greater confidence and efficiency. #CarpalTunnelSyndrome #ClinicalResearch #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalDiagnostics #PainManagement Elisabet Hagert, MD PhD Donald Lalonde Edward de Keating-hart Olivier Mares Benjamin Ferembach Thomas APARD Alejandro Badia, MD Donald Lalonde Min Cheol Chang Mathieu Boudier-Revéret Kevin Kruse Franck Atlan Alison TAYLOR Alistair PhillipsTom Lattré Amir Adham Ahmad Nicolas Dreant Xavier Gueffier Dott.
