What’s the real value of a mentor? In this video, Ruth Gotian, Ed.D., M.S. and I, along with other extraordinary individuals (Dr Kirstin Ferguson AM , Peter Brown MBE, Sally Helgesen, Samantha Hiew, PhD and Jonathan Low Global Speaking Fellow, CSP, ICF MCC), share how our mentors made a significant difference at crucial points in our careers. Whether it’s the six words that changed Ruth’s direction or the brave feedback that helped me rewrite Just Ask, mentors don’t just offer advice—they reflect what’s really going on and challenge us to grow. A good mentor provides invaluable support, whether it’s career advice, personal encouragement, or even tough love. These relationships matter at every stage, not just early on. Watch to learn how mentoring can be a lifelong source of guidance. Find out more in https://lnkd.in/ezW6qVWW #Mentoring #Leadership #CareerSuccess

Our Mentors are the Heartbeat of future leaders and we are grateful for any time they give up to support our mentees. Our next mentor to spotlight is the awesome Pamela Nast FCICM. Here’s a few words of Pamela’s mentoring journey: “Hi there, my name is Pamela and I’ve been a mentor for the last 10 years. Initially I started mentoring with my colleagues at work. However, around 5 years ago I was approached to see if I’d like to work with people outside of my own circle by Future Leaders. I’d known Ian Parry for some time and although initially I wasn’t sure it turned out to be a great decision. Since starting I’ve mentored three people and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with them. It’s only when you start chatting with your mentees is that you realise, “Ah I’ve had that challenge”. Asking questions and helping to understand what your mentee is looking to gain from the process is key. It’s not about telling people what to do, it’s about discussing options and helping them to find what works best for them. It’s so rewarding and it’s wonderful to meet new people and see them grow. A bonus which I hadn’t expected from this experience was reminding myself of how far I’ve come and approaches I can use in my own challenges.” If you would like to join us as a mentor or be mentored by someone like Pamela, get in touch! https://lnkd.in/eUaRw7Ke #mentoring #leadership

🌱 The Power of Being a Mentor 🌱 One of the most fulfilling roles we can take on in our careers is that of a mentor. The opportunity to guide, support, and inspire others on their journey is a privilege that comes with immense rewards—both for the mentee and the mentor. Mentorship isn't just about sharing knowledge; it’s about listening, empowering, and helping others unlock their potential. In return, mentors often gain fresh perspectives, new insights, and a renewed sense of purpose. The ripple effect of mentoring is profound: when you invest in others, you’re helping to shape the next generation of leaders. Together, we create a culture of growth, collaboration, and continuous learning. If you’ve ever had a mentor, you know the impact it can have. If you haven’t yet mentored someone—there’s no better time to start. 🌟 #Mentorship #Leadership #GrowthMindset #EmpowerOthers #LifelongLearning #GiveBack

Choosing a mentor is a pivotal decision that can significantly shape your career trajectory. For the younger generation, it's more important than ever to gain clarity on what effective mentoring entails. Here are five critical factors to consider when selecting a mentor: 1. Proficiency and Expertise: Identify someone with a wealth of mastery in your field who has successfully steered challenges you're likely to face. 2. Alignment of Values: Your mentor should share similar professional values and principles, ensuring that their leadership aligns with your long-term goals. 3. Willingness to Challenge You: A good mentor doesn’t just offer advice; they push you to step out of your convenience zone and grow. 4. Accessibility: Choose a mentor who is genuinely available to provide consistent support and is invested in your development. 5. Track Record of Mentorship: Seek out individuals who have a history of successfully mentoring others and can provide insight based on past experiences. #Mentoring #Leadership

As a mentor, you often expect to share your knowledge and experience, but what you learn in return can be just as impactful. Mentoring offers fresh perspectives, challenges you to refine your communication, and pushes you to stay up-to-date with new trends and approaches in your field. It also fosters emotional intelligence, empathy, and the art of active listening. The journey is a two-way street—by guiding others, you grow alongside them. Ultimately, mentoring reminds us that leadership isn’t about having all the answers, but about evolving, learning, and growing together. #Leadership #Mentorship #Growth

Expecting a mentor to meet high standards isn’t about ego—it’s about aligning with someone who truly exemplifies success and can elevate your journey. For me, a mentor needs to be: 🔵 An industry expert with a wealth of knowledge and proven success. 💪 🔵 Someone I can genuinely look up to in terms of wealth, status, and integrity. 💶 🔵 A mutually beneficial partner, ideally someone with whom I can exchange business value. Seeking this level of mentorship drives me to aim higher, and I believe that setting the bar high is key to achieving exceptional results. 📈 What qualities do you look for in a mentor? #Mentorship #ProfessionalGrowth #Leadership #MentorQualities #BusinessGrowth #SuccessMindset #LinkedInCommunity #Networkin

We've all faced the question: "What if they leave after you've invested all that time, money & energy?" when it comes to mentoring. While the risk of losing a mentee is always present, the impact of your guidance and mentorship lasts beyond their departure. When the focus is on growing skill sets, mindsets, and leading spirits towards confidence, you leave a lasting mark on someone's life. By instilling the principles of mentorship, you empower them to pay it forward and grow others in the future. As an industry and society as a whole, we all win when we prioritize mentorship and its long-lasting impact. #mentoring #leadership #payitforward
