CISA recently announced a Proposed Rule to mandate critical infrastructure entities to report "substantial" cyber incidents within 72 hours and ransom payments within 24 hours. If adopted in its current form, the Proposed Rule would be one of the most sweeping federal cybersecurity incident-reporting regulations. Entities in critical infrastructure sectors should carefully review the Proposed Rule to determine their applicability and ensure alignment with its requirements. Read Jones Day's Alert for more information on the Proposed Rule. https://ow.ly/mqu350R9M9j #CISA #criticalinfrastructure #cyberincident

The world of cybersecurity can be a battlefield, and we need capable people to defend it. Let's move away from relying on "affordable solutions" and invest in strengthening our systems. Visualize the vast infrastructure as a space to navigate and lock down, with resourceful cyber workers defending and deterring attacks. Together, we can identify and engage with actors in this space, making it a safer place for all. #cybersecurity #networkdefense #informationsecurity

Recently, a 447-page notice of proposed rulemaking was released by CISA (Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency). It proposes among the most momentous changes to cybersecurity law ever before. This includes mandating every critical infrastructure organization (316 thousand of them) to report ransomware payments to CISA within 24 hours of the attack, and “covered cyber incidents” within 72 hours. They are deploying all the fiscal resources they can to keep this working. A drastic measure, but one that might be necessary. Evidently, the CISA has realized how much cybersecurity is affecting the globe. There is something about this decision that they may not realize. As a long-term solution, this can only resolve the cybersecurity crisis once and for all if reporting cyberattacks will be a recourse to stopping hackers. We only hope that increasing transparency and public awareness could be an effective way to help both public sector and private sector prioritize investments into newer technology to combat ransomware and cyber attacks.
