Paris Summer Olympics 2024: Where to Watch the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

When Did the 2024 Summer Olympic Sports Become Olympic? The 2024 Summer Olympic games will consist of 45 different sport categories. Many of these sports are original to the first Olympic games of 1896, but many new sports have been added in the years since. Breakdancing is new to 2024. For a sport to be Olympic, it must be approved by the International Olympic Committee and often sports were “demonstrated” first at the games before becoming official. Some sports were dropped and then added back in later such as golf, which was removed after the 1900 games and reinstated in 2016. Some sports had name changes over the years. Two sports were cancelled in 1896 due to extreme weather (rowing and sailing) and only two Olympic sports still involve animals (horses): modern pentathlon and the equestrian events. (Fun fact: The shooting sport originally included the killing of live pigeons, but that practice was discontinued). #olympicgames #Paris

As the Olympic Games are being held this year in Paris, I thought it would be interesting to explore how the Olympians earn their chance at gold, silver, or bronze. It turns out that, just like in the world of finance, the path to the Olympics is paved with strategic planning, diligent effort, and a fair bit of competitive spirit. Paris 2024 Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be held from 26 July to 11 August of this year and will include Aquatics, Athletics, and Boxing. New categories like breaking (as in break-dancing, I kid you not) will grace the games, as over 10,000 athletes from over 200 countries compete in 306 medal events. The Right Stuff? When it comes to qualifying, each sport has a different metric by which they judge. Some are based on individual performances, others on the collective strength of national teams. Sports like shooting and taekwondo offer quotas for places earned by individual athletes, which helps prevent a small number of countries from dominating any event. However, even then, the final say on who fills those quota places lies with the athlete's respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs). Dream Teams In team sports, nations secure their spots through performances in World Championships, continental competitions, or global qualifiers. This rigorous selection process ensures only the highest-performing athletes represent their countries on the international stage, making each event a (hopefully) thrilling spectacle of skill and sportsmanship. They feature summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered the world's foremost sports competition, with more than 200 teams, representing sovereign states and territories, participating. By default, the Games generally substitute for any world championships during the year in which they take place (however, each class usually maintains its own records).[2] The Olympic Games are held every four years. Since 1994, they have alternated between the Summer and Winter Olympics every two years during the four-year Olympiad.[3][4] Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, held in Olympia, Greece from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, leading to the first modern Games in Athens in 1896. The IOC is the governing body of the Olympic Movement, which encompasses all entities and individuals involved in the Olympic Games. The Olympic Charter defines their structure and authority.
