EODev winner of ADEME’s "H2 Technology Building Blocks" call for projects 🙏 The SGPI (General Secretariat for Investment) has confirmed an R&D grant to EODev to support the development of high-power electro-hydrogen power generators. Thanks to Alicia Eastman (InterContinental Energy), Francois Dao (EDF Renewables Middle East), Kevin Lynch (Source Galileo), Gayle Schueller, PhD (3M) for being lively and insightful panellists, making my role as moderator particularly easy. I have brutally summarised the dicussion here below; feel free to add or correct me as you wish ! The audience poll placed the cost of transportation and storage as the main area to focus on to unlock the hydrogen economy, with hydrogen cost production a close second. The panel partially agreed (and partially disagreed), highlighting the need for a multifaceted approach: technological advancements, economies of scale, innovative financial structures, supportive government policies, and efficient transportation and storage solutions. Production Technology: New materials and innovations in the design of electrolysers are essential to improving efficiency and reducing costs. Economies of Scale: - Building large-scale production facilities in regions with cheap and abundant renewable energy sources, such as coastal deserts, can lower production costs. - Integration of renewables with hydrogen production helps in achieving economies of scale, particularly in regions with rich solar and wind resources. Finance: Project finance structures and leveraging export credit agencies (ECAs) can help mitigate financial risks associated with hydrogen projects. ECAs provide not only equipment financing but also commercial insurance, which can significantly aid in de-risking projects and securing capital. Government Incentives and Policies - Subsidies and regulations that support the uptake of green hydrogen can drive demand and make production more cost-effective. - Contracts for Difference (CfDs) can provide financial certainty and stability, encouraging investment in hydrogen production facilities. Transportation and Storage: Developing efficient transporting and storing solutions is essential to connect supply and demand at scale. We were delighted to recently welcome a delegation of Brazilian government officials and business leaders at our Manufacturing Innovation Centre in Redhill, UK. This visit, organised by UK in Brazil and the Department for Business and Trade, was hosted by Phil Caldwell, CEO at Ceres, Caroline Hargrove, Chief Technology Officer at Ceres, and Dipak Mistry, Strategic Business Development Director at Ceres.   The visit offered a valuable opportunity to discuss Brazil's hydrogen strategy and explore opportunities to manufacture and deploy Ceres' technology in Brazil. The delegation toured our pilot manufacturing facility, gaining insights into our cutting-edge processes.   The delegation’s commitment to exploring #renewable energy and green hydrogen solutions was tangible, highlighted by Brazil’s aspirations to have pilot projects in all regions by 2030 and to be a globally competitive producer of green hydrogen by 2035. Net-zero | North-West, Manifesto The North West Industrial Cluster has a roadmap to deliver the world’s first net zero industrial region by 2040. It outlines a £30bn investment pathway in a diverse mix of technologies over the near-term targeted at decarbonising major heavy industrial sectors across the North West and North Wales. Categories include power sector decarbonisation, wide scale hydrogen production and use, industrial energy efficiency measures including electrification of processes, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), and industrial CCUS at industrial plants. The Parliament has passed the Net Zero Industry Act, marking a significant step toward accelerating our decarbonization journey. Are you prepared to capitalize on the transformative opportunities that this Act presents? The Net-Zero Industry Act has been passed by European Parliament, marking a significant stride towards establishing the EU as a global leader in #cleantechnologies, achieving high resilience in the #energy system and boosting skillsets and employment. While the Act supports all #netzerotechnologies, projects concentrating on strategic technologies could receive designation as Net-Zero strategic projects. These initiatives would enjoy streamlined approval processes, accelerated implementation support, and #funding guidance from the Net Zero Europe Platform. Selection criteria will prioritize their ability to enhance competitiveness, generate high-quality employment opportunities, and decrease reliance on imported components for net-zero technology. They key listed technologies are: 1.  #Solar #photovoltaic and thermal technologies 2.  #Onshore and #offshore wind technologies 3.  Advanced battery and #storage solutions 4.  Heat pumps and geothermal energy 5.  #Electrolysers and fuel cells 6.  Sustainable biogas and biomethane 7.  #CCS 8.  #Innovative grid technologies   Additionally, there will be #regulatory sandboxes for technological innovation and launching of Net-Zero Industry Academies to develop a skilled #workforce. At the end it will strength the EU's capacity to manufacture strategic net-zero technologies, aiming to meet at least 40% of its annual needs by 2030. It also offers a platform for companies to advance the sustainability agenda and actively contribute to the #EUambitious.
