I tend to have a healthy skepticism when it comes to new renewable energy tech, so I'm taking this new sodium ion battery with a grain of salt (pun intended) - sincerely hoping this will continue to build the path towards a more sustainable future: "Sodium-ion batteries offer several advantages over their lithium-ion counterparts: the far superior abundance, cost-effectiveness, and reduced safety risks of sodium are just a few examples. Not only has sodium been estimated to be about one thousand times more abundant than lithium, but a finished sodium-ion battery is expected to be available for as little as a third of the cost of an average lithium-ion battery." #Sustainability #SodiumIonBatteries

Eco-Friendly Battery As An Alternative To Lithium I recently read an enlightening article by Nidhi Agarwal on the electronicsforu website about alternatives to lithium batteries. Key points include: 1. Researchers from Linköping University (LiU), Karlstad University, and Chalmers University in Sweden have created an affordable battery using zinc and lignin, a paper industry byproduct, eliminating the need for lithium. 2. This innovation marks a step forward toward renewable sources of energy and eco-friendly materials. 3. The zinc-based battery technology is much safer compared to lithium-based batteries, which have fire hazards and pose a risk of explosion. 4. The issue with using zinc-based technology was primarily due to zinc's reaction with water in the electrolyte, leading to hydrogen gas formation, which rendered the zinc unusable. 5. Researchers improved the stability by introducing a different type of electrolyte known as water-in-polymer salt electrolyte (WiPSE), demonstrating enhanced durability in their experiments. 6. The newly developed zinc-based battery is environmentally friendly, retains its charge for a week, maintains 80% performance over 8,000 cycles, and has scalable technology with favorable energy density compared to lead-acid batteries without toxic components. As we continue to seek sustainable solutions for energy storage, understanding these alternatives is crucial. I highly recommend reading this article to stay informed about the future of battery technology. Hydrogen and Battery Storage - Hytronity's analysis shows the Economic Importance of the balanced combination of both Sustainable Technologies and gives a first indication of how a high level of environmental compatibility can be achieved. In good correlation - more sustainability and lower material costs go hand in hand. This is because lower material costs are often an expression of less impact on nature and lower energy consumption in mining and processing. Furthermore, the use of materials defines the most substantial share of the carbon footprint as well as of the costs of industrially manufactured systems. Therefore, Sustainable Systems for Sustainable Applications are the basis for economic advantages in competition. Hytronity is pursuing this path. #Hydrogen #Battery Hytronity #Costs #Sustainability #CleanEnergy

💡 Could potassium-ion batteries be the new alternative to lithium-ion? Group1 has just launched the world’s first 18650-sized potassium-ion battery, offering a groundbreaking solution. With lithium supplies struggling to meet skyrocketing demand, this innovation could be a game-changer for our transition to a greener future... Why potassium batteries?🤔 🌌 Potassium is far more abundant in the Earth's crust than lithium, reducing the risk of supply shortages and price volatility. This makes potassium-ion batteries a more sustainable and cost-effective option in the long run. 💰 The abundance of potassium translates to lower raw material costs. Additionally, potassium-ion batteries can utilise existing battery manufacturing infrastructure, which means reduced production costs and easier scalability. ⚡ Early research indicates that potassium-ion batteries can deliver comparable energy density and cycle life to lithium-ion batteries. While still in the developmental stages, advancements are being made to improve their efficiency and performance. 🌍 Mining and refining lithium have significant environmental impacts, including water usage and habitat disruption. Potassium, being more readily available, can be extracted and processed with a smaller ecological footprint. 🔒 Potassium-ion batteries may offer improved safety over lithium-ion batteries, as potassium's chemical properties can lead to reduced risks of overheating and combustion. The potential for potassium-ion batteries to revolutionise the energy storage market is enormous. As the technology matures, it could lead to more sustainable, cost-effective, and safer batteries, accelerating our progress toward a greener and more resilient energy future.🔋🌱 #Innovation #batterytech #batteryinnovation
