I see a lot of these kind of articles: articles about the responsibility organizations have and what they “should be doing”. Unfortunately, there is a huge gap in awareness here. You can’t create psychological safety, a learning environment or sustainable performance without training, developing, and supporting people – particularly leaders. You can’t “accountability” leaders into creating a better environment for their people. The long-term impact of a toxic work environment is significant. Leaders have a massive impact on health and a direct managers name the most common name used around a dinner table. Yet there is still this call to action that “organizations need to do more”... No – leaders need to be given the opportunity to lead more and we need to promote people who are worthy of followers instead of just good at getting tasks done. article mentioned: https://lnkd.in/gkz3KXXk

As a strategic marketing leader, I know that tactics alone are doomed to fail without a clear, cohesive strategy. This principle applies beyond marketing to all aspects of business leadership, including the crucial area of mental health. This article from Australian Institute of Company Directors articulates how directors can create psychologically safe environments in corporate governance sectors. As I prepare to speak at the IABC Global Conference on this topic, the importance of senior leaders speaking openly about mental health challenges and showing vulnerability cannot be overstated. When leaders are transparent and supportive, it encourages employees to be more open about their own challenges, fostering a culture of trust and productivity. This not only enhances employee well-being but also positively impacts the organization's bottom line. For those committed to strategic leadership and creating a thriving workplace, this article is a must-read. Let's prioritize mental health, profitability and lead with empathy. https://lnkd.in/gdDTJPXs #Leadership #MentalHealth #CorporateGovernance #StrategyFirst Zilla Efrat

🤔 Do your team members feel safe and valued? Do they trust you? Do they feel inspired by your leadership? The psychosocial hazards facing employees and their impacts are discussed in this recent Gallop article. "Leaders urgently need to address this mounting crisis. They and their organizations have both a duty of care and a vested interest in ensuring their workplaces promote psychosocial safety and enhance employees’ engagement and wellbeing." How? Here's some simple things that I talk to leaders about every day. * Hold Meaningful One on One's. These frequent, ongoing conversations give you the opportunity to build trust and connection. They are a non-negotiable part of your role. * Be a Role Model. Demonstrate the desired cultural behaviours. Choose your words and actions. You're always on show as a leader. * Increase Role Clarity. A lack of clarity increases stress and anxiety. Clarify expectations and KPIs for every role in your team. No second guessing ever. * Create a culture of recognition. Give specific reinforcing feedback at every opportunity. Build their confidence. Do the shout-out.

This is a solid reminder for well-meaning leaders who shield their team by taking on extra work for themselves. Employees will follow the behavior you model. Taking on the work of others will promote a culture of being overworked and overwhelmed. Taking the time to delegate, coordinate, and ensure teamwork leads to a healthier environment. #hr community #seniorleadership #deib
