Still relatively early days here and with some technical challenges that need to be overcome, but an interesting development, nonetheless. The direct to satellite technology does have some useful use cases with many saying this will be the end of the “dead coverage zones” in rural areas as well as enabling “always on” access to emergency services. I wonder what impact this will have on the traditional GSM operator revenue in years to come.

Another example, this time in the UK, of MNOs looking to innovative approaches to help improve mobile coverage. Virgin Media O2 are working with STARLINK to help with the backhaul requirements of deploying masts in areas that cannot be reached by fibre – a great method for improving signal at a more affordable cost. This is a great example of satellite and mobile acting in concert to mutual benefit, as I have said before it is not likely that satellite communications will replace mobile networks, this is the most likely outcome – a win-win for all. #connectivity #networks #investment #innovation #mnos #satellites #2g #3g #4g #5g #business #enterprise #scotland #UK #growth #mobile #mobilenetworks #telecoms #telecommunications #sharedruralnetwork #rural #ruralcoverage #srn https://lnkd.in/eJ_rK7-v

The Federal Communications Commission's proposed ruling makes available 200+ MHz of spectrum for satellite direct-to-device networks. This would greatly benefit the implementation of a true space-based cellular broadband network that shares terrestrial spectrum and helps bring 5G coverage to every corner of America. This is possible with our planned ASICs and 2,400 sq ft phased-array BlueBird satellites, each of which will support up to 10,000 Mhz of processing bandwidth — with flexibility for partners to select and reuse their operating frequencies. 📶#5G

The FCC has approved #Starlink's plan to provide #cellular service via #satellites, enhancing #mobileconnectivity in underserved areas. However, certain limitations remain, such as restrictions on emission power to prevent interference with existing networks. This development is part of a broader initiative to eliminate #cellulardeadzones and improve #emergencycommunications. While #texting services are expected to launch soon, full #voice and #data capabilities are anticipated in 2025. https://hubs.ly/Q02ZKhpS0

Integrating satellite technology, like Starlink, with 4G and 5G networks is transforming the landscape of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). Our blog dives into how combining low-latency satellite and cellular networks addresses challenges in remote or hard-to-connect areas. It highlights the importance of flexibility and resilience, ensuring businesses maintain consistent, high-speed internet even in difficult environments. For an in-depth look at how these technologies can optimise your network strategies, read the full blog here. https://lnkd.in/esUHWxCK #FWA #FixedWirelessAccess #Satellite #Starlink #CellularConectivity #RemoteConnectivity

The focus on using Non terrestrial networks is slowly catching up in recent times but CSPs seem to be bit cautious in moving in this direction which impacts their core USP of mobility and their investments in securing the coverage. #Ericsson #Ntn #settlitecommunication

I am amazed at what a satellite cell connection option will mean. A satellite cell connection option in telecommunications could revolutionize tower infrastructure, especially in regions lacking robust connectivity. Implementing this globally will enhance network resilience and connection coverage particularly in underserved areas where traditional tower infrastructure is insufficient.
