Leaders with lived experience in their communities play an important role in re-envisioning organizations so they can better serve residents and help remove systemic barriers to health and wellbeing. But far too often those leaders go unsupported—both financially and socially—especially for leaders of color. How can funders play a role in the solution? Research from The Bridgespan Group shows that there are four main ways that funders can support leaders of color with lived experience during times of leadership transition: - Lengthen the funding runway - Build platforms and connect to networks - Support peer exchange, mentorship, executive coaching, and wellbeing activities - Provide targeted support for leaders, boards, and teams It’s common for funders to lay low during a leadership change, but Zoila Jennings shares how that’s actually one of the most critical times leaders need support to ensure their efforts are sustainable in the long term.
