This is just up the road from Dufftown, in Elgin. A Foodbank. Are the people of Moray not embarrassed that a SINGLE Firm, (yet just 8% of the entire Scotch Whisky Industry), can take out HALF A BILLION DOLLARS, from the clearly impoverished area, in just a year? Why ON EARTH do we have a Foodbank here? It's only 18 miles drive, between Dufftown and Elgin. Have you been to Elgin? Have you been to Dufftown? There nothing much paved with Gold! It's a similar story, all over Scotland. If you go to most Scottish Foodbanks, they're usually beside a Distillery, Maturation Shed, Cask Manufacturer or Bottler. When are we having a Scotch Whisky Tourism Strategy and Budget? One that gives back, to the areas of Scotland who make the stuff and doesn’t just take. The Scotch Whisky Association knows it's ridiculous, that why they won't let me tag them, on here! There's an App to tell you where the nearest Foodbank is, there's NOT one to tell you where the nearest Distillery is... Does ANYONE care? Do you know that we have a volunteer group for helping homeless people in Barcelona called Esperança (means "Hope" in English)? You can find more information on their official website https://lnkd.in/dMypG_Xz It started as a few friends who came together and made some soup and sandwiches on a November night in 2013 and headed towards Park Ciutadella. Since then they have expanded and covered two routes, twice a week (Saturday and Sunday). They are always looking for new people to join. Barcelona BIM (Y.Muriel) we will joining the route on 26th May. Also we will have a two-hour sandwich-making workshop on 12th May. In these two hours, we will only prepare sandwiches, soups, drinks... all the food before two routes on that day. If you want to join the route to distribute food and drinks to people, please sign up for the route in the following duty sheet. Vegetable soup, Hard-boiled eggs, Tuna sandwiches, Cheese sandwiches, Soft fruit (bananas, oranges), Cookies or magdalenas (indiv.Wrapped), Small juices. What kind of clothes will be distributed to the homeless? Socks, Underwear, Sleeping bags / Blankets, clothes, Toiletries (in small containers), and Other donations e.g. dog food, rucksacks, trolleys, books, etc…

Thanks for your article in F&P (Fundraising & Philanthropy) magazine, Steven. Valuable advice for #charities. Do you have advice about admin + overheads for grant-seekers? In my experience, non-profits - especially those new to grant fundraising - can feel uncomfortable requesting a high funding amount. Your advice to people who are "shy" about asking for what they need is spot on: "describe what you would do with more funding if available". Sometimes organisations undervalue the costs associated with a grant. Applicants request funding that is not enough to cover the cost to deliver the program, forcing them to use reserves or other funds (donations, bequests) to make up the difference. Charities should request an amount that covers all the "hidden costs" required to write, deliver, measure and acquit the grant, including staff time, and a percentage of the organisation's running costs. This amount should also make allowance for the funds needed to ensure the organisation is sustainable - investment in capacity, governance, innovation, staff development and raising the next dollar (fundraising). The sector is becoming more aware of the need for greater flexibility in grant funding. More funders are awarding grants with less restrictions so the money can be directed to where it will have the most impact. Initiatives such as Reframe Overhead + Pay What it Takes are encouraging charities, funders and donors to change the conversation. Could programs like Penfolds' help to educate grant-seeking non-profits to account for the cost of being sustainable in their approach?
