🍀 Innisfail means "Island of Destiny" in Irish, which underscores the spirit of Deep Sky's mission in setting up the world's first Direct Air Capture (DAC) pilot innovation centre, Deep Sky Labs, at Innisfail in Alberta, Canada. Being an Irish company, NEG8 Carbon feels particularly connected with the project and the sentiment behind 'innisfail'. Alberta was chosen for it's sedimentary basins which provide the necessary porosity and permeability to store the captured CO₂ and for it's location an hour from Calgary. Eight of the world's leading DAC technology companies will kick off the project at Deep Sky where they can test and develop their technologies: NEG8 Carbon, Mission Zero Technologies, Airhive, Skytree, Skyrenu Technologies, Phlair, Greenlyte Carbon Technologies and Avnos, Inc. The first pilot project is due to start later this year. Over the coming 10 years, Deep Sky plans to capture 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ from the air which will then be securely stored underground. ➡ For more: https://lnkd.in/ek_JMr72 #directaircapture #carboncapture #cleanenergy

Welcome to Alberta, Deep Sky! Great news today that Deep Sky has chosen the town of Innisfail, Alberta for their carbon removal innovation and commercialization centre. Known as Deep Sky Labs, the facility will be used to pilot multiple direct air capture (DAC) technologies - helping to validate and optimize the performance of DAC so technologies can be scaled up and deployed at commercial scale as soon as possible. The test facility is expected to be operational early next year, beginning to remove 30,000 tonnes of CO2 over a 10-year period. The location was chosen based on Alberta's exceptional geologic storage resources and Innisfail's growing reputation as a green energy and cleantech hub. The project is estimated to generate high-quality jobs for 80 workers during construction, 15 jobs for ongoing operations, and provide a $110-million boost to the local economy over the next decade. The Deep Sky team are also advancing two CO2 storage projects in Quebec - pre-feasibility studies are now underway to assess the geologic potential for permanent CO2 storage in deep saline aquifers in Becancour and using in-situ mineralization in Thetford Mines. More information about these projects is available here: https://lnkd.in/gxSyW9_2 We look forward to seeing these innovative projects move forward, building on Canada's world-leading expertise in carbon management and storage!

Today we're announcing that Deep Sky has chosen Innisfail, Alberta as the location of the world's first direct air capture pilot innovation centre, Deep Sky Labs! Translating to "Island of Destiny" in Irish, Innisfail is an emerging clean technology hub, strategically located an hour north of Calgary along the busiest economic corridor in the province. From idea to construction in less than year, Deep Sky Labs will host pilots from the world's best DAC companies, starting with Mission Zero Technologies, Airhive, Skytree, Skyrenu technologies, NEG8 Carbon (formerly Trinity Green Energies), Phlair, Greenlyte Carbon Technologies, and Avnos, Inc. with the first arriving this fall. Powered entirely by 100% solar renewable electricity, Labs will have the capacity to capture 30,000 tonnes of CO2 from the air over 10 years, where it will be safely and permanently injected underground. Construction begins this month and we're thrilled that Deep Sky Labs has finally found its home. We're also announcing two CO2 storage projects in Quebec - deep saline aquifer storage in Bécancour and in-situ mineralization in Thetford Mines! Work has already begun on mapping the 3D underground using ultrasonic technology. We're targeting wells in 2025 to build our commercial scale DAC project in Quebec. 🌬 Just how windy is it in the #CelticSea? Is there a way to reduce the costs, risks and time of developing #FloatingOffshoreWind? 🍃 "Very" and "Yes!" Our #WindResourceAssessmentModel has been built in association with Wood to streamline #FLOW development in a fresh approach which demonstrates: 🏦 #Bankability. This is a "bankable" model that underpins yield analysis across a large resource area. 🤝 #Collaboration. This initiative has prompted several commercial developers to work together for reciprocal benefit. Data has been collected from two #floatingLiDARsystems deployed through the #ERDF #CornwallFLOWAccelerator program to provide at least 12 months’ worth of data. A third dataset was provided by Flotation Energy from their #WhiteCross test and demonstration site. #WindEnergy #CelticSea #FLOW

Thanks to Kate Williamson, Mitch Collins and Miriam Odlin for bringing in a great crowd for the Rotorua Green Drinks last week. I joined Councilor Lyall Thurston (Bay of Plenty Regional Council) and Aleisha Mitchell (Ohinemutu papakāinga project) to talk #Geothermal. It's always great to engage with the community and talk to how geothermal can transform communities and provide solutions. See below the arm waving in front a slide depicting Upflow Geosystems (#Andrew Marsh). "A Geosystem is the concept of understanding the unique benefits that arise from a particular geothermal environment, and how the individual resources (heat, minerals, microbes, etc.) can be combined with technologies to generate an optimal mix of outputs. It seeks to best configure and cascade individual activities for a significantly greater holistic outcome. This forms the basis to which a commercial lens can be applied and is used as a planning and decision-making tool to inform when and how to best to invest capital." #rotorua #renewables #community #climate
