A Visit to Patna: Progress and Inspiration Last month, I visited Patna, the capital city of Bihar, and I was amazed by its transformation. The last time I was here, I was a kid, and the city was completely different. Today, it boasts incredible modern developments like the newly constructed Marine Drive along the Ganga River, lush green parks, and an ambitious metro project already underway. But what made my trip truly special wasn’t just the city—it was a conversation I had just before boarding my flight. During an Uber ride, I met the father of 𝐑𝐚𝐣 𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐲𝐚, a boy whose bravery once inspired millions. As we Biharis often do, we started chatting openly. He proudly shared how his son had once directly questioned the Chief Minister of Bihar in a public address attended by thousands. Raj raised a critical issue about the inequalities in education systems, highlighting the stark differences between private and government schools. He even showed me the YouTube video, which went viral at the time, gaining over 3 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬. Watching the young boy articulate his concerns so boldly filled me with hope. It’s a reminder of the change we can bring if we dare to ask the right questions to those in power. If more of us, regardless of our age, speak up responsibly and hold our leaders accountable, I believe we can create a better and more equitable society. This Chhath Puja in Patna, felt different… It wasn't just the familiar warmth of family and community, but a deeper resonance within me. I was no longer just a passive observer, going through the motions of tradition. For years, I'd navigated these cultural practices with a sense of detached compliance. I'd questioned, even rebelled against certain aspects, but ultimately conformed. But now, standing by the Ghats of the Ganges, watching the sun dip below the horizon, a sense of profound connection washed over me. This wasn't blind faith, but a conscious embrace of my heritage. Perhaps it's the journey of life itself, the experiences that shape and mold us, that lead to this evolution. The values instilled in childhood, once accepted without question, are now examined, challenged, and ultimately integrated into a more personal understanding. Culture, I realise, is not a static entity, but a living, breathing organism that evolves with time. It's in the shared meals, the stories whispered by elders, the collective celebrations that bind us together. It's in the subtle nuances of language, the unspoken gestures that convey meaning beyond words. And it's in the quiet moments of reflection, when we connect with something larger than ourselves. This Chhath Puja was a confirmation of that evolution. The peace I felt amidst the throngs of devotees, the sense of shared purpose, the faith in something beyond the tangible – it was a powerful reminder of the enduring strength of culture. It's a legacy passed down through generations, not through forced indoctrination, but through the subtle osmosis of shared experiences. As I return to my life away from Patna, I carry with me not just the memories of the festival, but a deeper understanding of my own cultural identity. It's a heritage I now embrace with pride and gratitude, a foundation upon which I can build my own unique contribution to the story of our collective past. And in turn, I will pass it on, enriched by my own experiences, to the generations that follow. Rewriting Bihar’s story ***** Bihar is where Gautam Buddha found enlightenment. It is also the birthplace of great kings like Chandragupta Maurya and Asoka. Despite its glorious history, the state doesn’t enjoy a great reputation today.   “Bihar faces what is called a perception bias,” says Nitish Mishra, Minister of Industries and Tourism, Government of Bihar, in a conversation with Shradha Sharma. So perhaps, it is time to change that perception. This mission has been the Minister's driving force for the past two decades.   Into the future: The state has taken slow but steady steps toward social and economic transformation. Being self-sufficient, or Aatmanirbhar, is now a conscious strategy, be it to provide basic resources to the state’s citizens or to build future socio-economic growth opportunities.  Bihar today boasts of two international and one domestic airports. Other than Patna, there is an international airport in Gaya, where Gautam Buddha found his truth. The state has set aside Rs 3,819 crore as capital for roads and bridges. In addition, Rs 9,000 crore has been earmarked for affordable power and allied subsidies.

It doesn’t matter where you were born Read that again. It doesn’t matter where you were born, once your purpose is clear, and you know what gives you joy (the light) … ..you will get to where you are supposed to, while spreading that ‘much needed’, light. I was born in Patna, Bihar. The seat of the former Magadh empire, in a family with deep farming ties with the land. What gave me joy was exploring, adventures, books, writing, music and gadgets. But I was also a girl growing up in a deeply regressive culture. I managed to squash all of that .. ..to get to being in a place where I create I write I go on adventures I explore my spiritual limits I review virtual gadgets. And what’s my purpose? To share all of these gifts, that have been honed and sharpened by my immaculate experience ( look me up, I sometimes surprise myself) through strategic partnerships the world over, with people born all over, …bringing joy and purpose to many. Through systemic changes My religion? Does not matter My nationality? Does not matter My race? Nope.. none of those things matter I am a connector , a bridge of people , ideas and collectives.
