No matter if you're a scholar or a practitioner, if you're using Western instruments in a non-Western context, you need to validate them in the target context. You can use the CCCV Method described in our paper:

NEW REPORT: Operationlizing dual language education for emergent bilinguals + accompanying case studies. Dual language education fundamentally impacts equal acess to education for emergent bilingual children. Beyond being the *right and fair* thing to do, it also happens to be the gold standard according to research. Like any educational model, it has to be high quality to have the intended impact. But what’s high quality DLE? We dive into that in a concrete 7 part framework, informed by the literature, data, and dozens of program administrators, educators, policy makers, and researchers. So very proud of this one. It’s been years in the making and something the field has needed for a long time. Thank you W.K. Kellogg Foundation for the generous funding. Thank you to the brilliant 🔥 Dra. Xigrid Soto-Boykin for the leadership, the sweat and tears, the dedication, the spreadsheets, the LOVE she put into this. Thank you to our dear Gladys Montes, who first inspired this idea when we launched the Obama era DLL policy statement in her program in Miami nearly a decade ago. Immensely grateful that this project brought us Gladys Y. Aponte, our newest CEP postdoc who made this work immeasurably stronger in the last stretch. Thanks to one of my fave collaborators Conor Williams who churned out up Part I of this project on equitable access to DLE, an essential facet of this conversation. And finally, thanks to the giant familia who helped inform this work (seriously, check out the author line). When we all met as a group last summer, we were supposed to have a 9-4pm convening. At 7pm, we were still there sharing, learning, debating, eating tacos. Miriam Calderon suggested that if we had brought margaritas, we’d have stayed all night 😂. Next up… a webinar May 1 w our partners at The Century Foundation and a subsequent brief examining the local, state, and federal policy enablers that can help make this framework a reality… adelante, toward equitable DLE opportunities for all our brilliant bilinguals.
