North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Post

It is with heavy hearts that we announce legendary Dean Emeritus Quiester Craig, who led the School of Business and Economics for an unprecedented 40 years, shepherding it to extraordinary heights, has passed away. We offer sincere thoughts, prayers and condolences to family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Dr. Craig served as dean from 1972 until 2013. Under his 40-year tenure, the then business school accomplished achievements unprecedented in HBCU business education, including becoming the first HBCU to earn accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. While we could never quantify his immense life, career and impact, additional tribute is available online https://lnkd.in/dB4mVdpN

A giant in every way! Quiester had a positive impact on more lives than can be counted both at NC A&T and through the numerous professors he developed and deans he coached throughout the AACSB network. Dean Craig had steadfast loyalty to NC A&T, he could have moved to other universities but he never gave one a consideration. I am blessed to have known and worked with him for nearly 50 years; RIP dear friend.

Dean Emeritus Craig was someone I held in high regard. His character manifested kindness, intellect, strategic thinking and most of all, a humility and respect for his team. His ego was not one that took credit for the work of others. He was secure in his spirit and in his mind enough to recognize those who worked alongside him to realize the dream. He was a transformational leader who was secure, embraced wisdom and purpose, refused to trade integrity for political gain; and who was self-confident and appreciative of those he led. This is what makes the difference between transformational leaders (as doers) and those who profess to be transformational leaders. I also admire him for his intelligence demonstrated by balancing assertiveness with empathy, strategy and authentic engagement. There are very few people who can meet this challenge; there are very few who will rise to this challenge. I am grateful to have crossed paths with such a great leader whose foundation consisted of respect for others, high expectations and kindness to all. Rest in power, Dr. Craig.

Grateful for the doors Dean Craig opened for so many of us. This man provided a environment for me to learn, draw inspiration, and believe a life was possible even though I had never seen it before. I write this with a heavy heart but full spirit honoring the man, the myth, the Aggie LEGEND. Rest easy Dean Craig - Job well done! #EternallyThankful

This is huge loss to the school and alumni. I only had a few interactions with Dean Craig but he always lead with integrity and was fair. He gave me another chance when I dropped the ball on my gpa. Firm but kind the message was received get it together. That one act of kindness put me on the path of success that I am on now. My deep condolences to the Craig family.

I have been blessed with many angels along this journey called life and Dean Craig was absolutely one of them. When my mom got laid off from her job my junior year and I thought I was going to need to take a pause on my education, he said “absolutely not Buggs!” He removed every obstacle in my way, from helping me secure off campus housing to renting furniture so that I didn’t sleep on the floor. He genuinely cared about me and my education and only asked (or demanded rather) my success in return. I have thanked him many times over the years but words can never express how much those acts (and so many others) meant to me. His impact on my life will have ripple effects for generations to come and I am so grateful to have known him. His love, generosity, and no-nonsense approach were such a special part of my HBCU experience and I will never forget him. My sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Quiester was one of the first b-school deans I met during a 20 year career on the AACSB staff, and one (from among thousands) that I have the most vivid recollections of. He taught all of us many lessons. A great advocate for management education, and especially for A&T and HBCUs in general. He was one of a kind.
