The last two weeks have been exhilarating! I've had the privilege of diving deep into a product's core with a fantastic team. The experience has only reaffirmed my belief in value-centered design. It's incredible how clearly defining values upfront can unlock creativity, drive meaningful decisions, and even simplify complex problems. It's no wonder that companies like Apple and others have made values central to their design process. If you're curious about how aligning your products with core values can revolutionize your design approach, check out my article on Value-Centered Design: https://lnkd.in/gXBJW9Hp #uxdesign #productdesign #designthinking #valuecentereddesign #designprinciples

What do you appreciate the most within the design process? Name: Pranavi LMK Title: Associate Product Designer Answer: I really appreciate the process of knowing what we will be designing instead of jumping right into it. With the design process, I have a clear understanding of the user, problem and solution that I want to create. Personally, I really enjoy the ideate and prototype segment of the design process. By exploring various ideas, we can uncover unexpected insights and alternate approaches to the solution. It pushes us to think out of the box. Prototyping helps me visualize the solution I had in mind. This helps the stakeholder, client, users understand the solution better. It allows us to iterate and test giving us the best result by the end. Read more Dos and Don’ts of Design thinking 👇

Balancing Creativity and Functionality in Product Design 🎨 Creativity vs. 🛠️ Functionality Balancing these two in product design can feel like walking a tightrope! As designers, we often ask ourselves: How do you make something visually striking while also ensuring it's practical and intuitive? 🤔 The answer is in harmony, creativity and functionality don’t have to be enemies! They can and should coexist. Here’s how I approach this balance in design: Creativity grabs attention and sets your product apart. It’s what gets people interested. 💡 Functionality ensures that your product is easy to use and meets real needs. No matter how cool it looks, if it’s not functional, users will leave. 🏃♂️ Blend them to create something both visually compelling and highly efficient. This balance is where the magic happens. 🎯 Think of creativity as the first impression and functionality as the lasting impact. They work together to build a product that not only looks good but also delivers an amazing experience. Too much creativity without function? You’ll frustrate your users. Too much focus on functionality without creativity? You risk losing engagement and excitement. 😅 Finding that sweet spot means continuously testing, iterating, and refining your design to make sure it’s both useful and beautiful. What’s your approach to balancing creativity and functionality in your projects? I’d love to hear your thoughts and learn from your experiences! Let’s keep the conversation going... #ProductDesign #CreativeDesign #DesignThinking #UXDesign #Functionality #Innovation #DesignBalance #UserExperience #Productivity #UIUXDesign

It's Not "Just" Design! I've lost count of how many times I've heard things like, “It’s just design, it shouldn’t take long,” “£500 for just design?” or “Just add the table to the page.” Well, it’s easy to think design is just about making things look good, but in reality, there’s so much more that happens behind the scenes that leads to the beautiful interfaces and seamless user experience you see. Behind every screen you interact with is a journey of understanding user needs, solving problems, and refining ideas. Design starts with understanding the product goals, research, gaining insights, getting to know the people who will actually use the product, and understanding their pain points ( Empathy ). And it doesn’t stop there, it involves collaborating with teams, brainstorming, and constant testing to know what works and what doesn’t. It’s an ongoing process of refining ideas and solving real challenges. Design takes time, effort, and a whole lot of thinking. The visual part you see is just the tip of the iceberg, the real work happens behind the scenes, where creativity, strategy, and problem-solving come together to create something meaningful and functional. 📌📌As a Product Designer, I design solutions that not only make life easier for users but also help companies grow. Whether it’s boosting user engagement, improving how well a product fits the market, or making processes smoother, my goal is to deliver real results. If you're looking for a designer that benefits both your users and your business, let’s connect!

Do you want to improve your design teams value within your organisation? It’s something we as creatives don’t talk about much. We focus on the user experience and we hold the torch for that, representing our customers but at the end of the day organisations provide services for money. Business is a value exchange and so it’s important to think about what you can do as a design team to increase value. Now I’m not talking about jumping into dark ux patterns to hoodwink your customers. That path leads to the dark side. Instead look internally at the waste that’s tolerated on a daily basis. And then look at what you could make a difference in as a design team. Some hints: Debunk features that are poorly researched Block features that don’t add customer value. Enforce design rigor through research Insist on your team learning to prototype realistically. Define a cadence with the product and dev team that plugs some of the money leaks. I guarantee that you will have them. In 20 years I’ve never worked for a company that doesn’t. If you want help with the above reach out. I have proven experience in optimising design teams through design process and design practice. Make a difference.

🌟 Why I Shifted My Focus from Design to Functionality 🌟 As someone who has always appreciated the beauty of design, making the shift to prioritize functionality was not an easy decision. But over time, I realized that while aesthetics are important, they must serve a purpose. Here’s what I learned: 1.🔰User-Centric Approach: Functionality directly impacts user experience. A beautifully designed product that’s hard to use can frustrate users and ultimately drive them away. 2. 🔰Problem Solving: Focusing on functionality helps me address real problems. It’s about understanding the needs of users and delivering solutions that work seamlessly. 3. 🔰Sustainable Growth: In a fast-paced world, products that prioritize functionality tend to evolve more effectively. They adapt to user feedback and changing needs, ensuring long-term success. 4. 🔰Collaboration: Prioritizing functionality encourages collaboration between design and development teams. When both aspects work together, the result is a cohesive and effective product. 5. 🔰Design is Still Key: Let me clarify: design is not unimportant! A great design enhances functionality; it’s about finding the right balance. A product can be both functional and visually appealing. In conclusion, my journey has taught me that while design captures attention, functionality keeps users engaged. I’m excited to continue this path, creating products that not only look good but also work seamlessly. What are your thoughts? How do you balance design and functionality in your work? I’d love to hear your experiences! 💬 #ProductDesign #UserExperience #Functionality #DesignThinking #Collaboration

Why Design Systems Are Essential for Product Design 🛠️✨ When I used to work in a startup, we didn't have a design system. Every time I had to create a new component, I started from scratch. This meant I spent my whole day designing UI elements and never got the time to focus on user research or make business-centric decisions to help the brand grow. Looking back, this was a mistake I made as a beginner designer, and I don't want you to repeat it. Here’s why you should invest in a design system: 🎨 Consistency Across the Board: A design system ensures that every element, from buttons to color schemes, is consistent across your product. This consistency boosts user experience and brand recognition. 🚀 Speed Up Development: With a design system, designers and developers have a set of pre-made components to work with. This speeds up the development process, allowing for faster iterations and updates. 📈 Scalability: As your product grows, maintaining design consistency can be challenging. A design system provides a scalable solution, ensuring that new features and updates integrate seamlessly with existing designs. 🤝 Improved Collaboration: A shared design language between designers and developers fosters better communication and collaboration. Everyone is on the same page, which reduces misunderstandings and streamlines the workflow. 🔍 Quality Control: Design systems help maintain a high standard of quality across your product. By having a centralized source of truth, you reduce the risk of errors and ensure a polished, professional look. Investing in a design system is not just about aesthetics; it's about creating a cohesive, efficient, and scalable product that meets user needs and stands out in the market. Don’t underestimate the power of a well-implemented design system! I know creating a design system can be really tough for startups, or companies with low budgets here is a design system made by Michael W. that can escalate your design from 0 to hero.
